A success mindset and a positive attitude on life are not accidents. They are developed at an early age with proper training and good examples to follow.
Children surrounded by fear, worry, indecision and a dependency view on life tend to believe this is what life is all about. After all, this is all they know. I think of all of the kids living in poverty and broken homes being taught this message by their parents and surroundings, blaming others rather than seeking ways to improve as a way of life.
Obviously, the message starts at home with our kids and grandkids but, if we are really going to make a difference, we need to be making a difference outside of our families and normal social circles.
If you are a teacher, work with your students to help them believe in themselves. Serve as a living example. Become involved in organizations designed to help kids. Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Police Athletic League come quickly to mind.
We can do it. One child at a time.
