A donation by Raymond James will name the directorship of the new Personal Financial Planning Program at the Muma College of Business. LIGHTNING CEO GRIGGS TO BE THE NEXT CONVERSATION GUEST

Steve Griggs, the Tampa Bay Lightning's CEO, is scheduled to be the next guest speaker at the Muma College of Business Conversation with a CEO scheduled for Feb. 1. Griggs, who also oversees operations at the Amalie Arena, the Lightning's home ice, is in his third season as CEO of the successful NHL franchise and has transformed the club into a perennial powerhouse. SPORT & ENTERTAINMENT ANALYTICS CONFERENCE SET FOR MARCH

The Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program is planning its fourth annual analytics conference in March, with a host of esteemed guest speakers on tap to discuss related topics over the two-day event. STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: ROGAN DONELLY, PRESIDENT, CEO OF TERVIS
Rogan Donelly
Rogan Donelly, enrolled in the Executive MBA program, is not your typical student. For example, he isn't eager to climb the corporate ladder when he graduates in May. He's already president and CEO of Tervis, the drinkware company in Venice that makes $100 million a year. He's the latest in his family line to operate the company, which has been run by three generations for more than 70 years. To read more, click here.

Week of Welcome
Hundreds turned out to celebrate the ritual known as the Week of Welcome at the Muma College of Business. The atrium was filled with fresh-faced students just back from winter break. They raked in plenty of swag and chowed down on free hot dogs. The event was sponsored by Citi and business majors walked away with new Muma College of Business T-shirts after visiting tables set up by various groups. To see photos, click here.
ISDS NEW CONCENTRATION: HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

As interest in human resource management builds in the world of big business, the Muma College of Business has answered the call. The Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department is now offering a management concentration on human resources in which students learn about topics such as compensation, benefits, training, recruitment, staffing and diversity in the workplace. FLORIDA SBDC AT USF HANDS OUT $7.5 MILLION IN BRIDGE LOANS
Irma bridge loans
The Florida Small Business Development Center at USF administered 141 emergency bridge loans totaling more than $7.5 million in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The interest-free loans helped small businesses recover from damage caused to physical locations and paid for lost revenue because of the storm that hit Florida in September. To read more, click here.
FACULTY/STAFF NOTES 
  • Carol Osborne, instructor with the Marketing Department, has been named director of the Zimmerman Advertising Program, an interdisciplinary project that involves the Muma College of Business and the Zimmerman School of Mass Communications. ZAP students are enrolled in the business advertising major, which is part of the Marketing Department. Osborne teaches basic marketing and promotion management and has more than 30 years' experience in the professional marketing sector.
  • Dahlia Robinson, associate professor of accounting, recently won the Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award, which was presented at the Beta Alpha Psi banquet in December. Robinson, a KPMG Faculty Fellow, teaches courses in financial accounting at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Terry Engle, long-time professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, will retire during the spring 2018 semester as part of DROP. Engle teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in independent auditing and internal operational auditing. He has taught at USF for 34 years.
  • Alex Miller has joined the college's human resources group and is working to streamline the college's hiring processes.
  • Kaushik Dutta and Shivendu Shivendu are the recipients of the Muma Fellowship Stipend, which helps defray the costs of resources needed to conduct research. Both are associate professors in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department.
  • Dipayan Biswas and Anol Bhattacherjee recently were awarded the Exide Professorship in Business Ethics. Biswas is a professor of marketing and Bhattacherjee is a professor in information systems. Instructors Kerry Walsh, director of the Business Honors Program, and Greg Smersh, with the Finance Department, also won the award.
 
ALUMNI NOTES   
  • Brian Lamb, ('98, Accounting) chair of the USF Board of Trustees and Fifth Third Bank executive, has been promoted to the head of Wealth and Asset Management at Fifth Third Bank. Lamb was serving as chief corporate responsibility and reputation officer, a position he held for about a year. Prior to that, Lamb worked in Tampa as president of the bank's North Florida region.
  • Randy Thornton ('00, Finance) was named senior vice president of client services with York Risk Services Group, a provider of claims management and other insurance services. Previously, Thornton served as president of risk control for the same company.
  • Daniel P. Reininga ('87 MBA) was named president and CEO of Lake Shore Savings Bank. He previously served as the executive vice president and COO of the company. He also is a member of the board of directors and has served as vice chairman of the board.
  • Eric Lee ('15, Management Information Systems) is now a defensive lineman with the New England Patriots. He had played on the practice squads with the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills, and was picked up by the Patriots, who are playing in the AFC championship game this weekend, earlier this year.
  • Les Muma ('66, Mathematics) has been appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the USF Board of Trustees. Muma, the former CEO of Fiserv Technology Solutions, is a member of the USF Foundation and the USF Muma College of Business Executive Advisory Board. His term on the board of trustees lasts until 2023. The business college was named after the Muma family, which made a $25 million naming donation four years ago. The Muma family also made a $15 million donation to USF in November.

 
 
Jan. 18, 3 p.m., Personal Financial Planning Day, at which Raymond James Financial willannounce that the investment giant's donation to the Muma College of Business will name the directorship position in the Personal Financial Planning Program. The event will take place in the Muma College of Business atrium and includes talks by industry professionals and a panel discussion. Being named to the list makes a business owner part of an elite group of fellow Bulls who are publicly honored as making their marks in business and in their communities. * Jan. 28-30, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which sets the standard for excellence in business colleges around the globe, will visit the Muma College of Business as part of its five-year re-accreditation process. A peer review team, made up of leaders in other business colleges, will examine policies and procedures to determine whether the Muma College of Business will receive its accreditation renewal for the next five years.

* Feb. 20, 2 p.m., the Muma College of Business Thought Leader Series with Steve Wozniak, entrepreneur, philanthropist and engineer who invented the first Apple computers, leading to devices that have found their way into just about every house, briefcase and hip pocket of users around the world. * Feb. 23, 7-10 p.m., the 2018 Entrepreneurship Gala, in association with the USF Center for Entrepreneurship, takes place at the Westin, 725 S.
