Believing in the Art of Partnering

It's been said that "partnering is an art."  Creating new partnerships is about developing trust and creating a safe place for new ideas to emerge. It's about being aware, recognizing, and respecting the work that is already being done in the community while finding ways to further the work and fill in service gaps. It's about putting our heads together around a common goal, forgetting turf issues, and finding a way. This collaborative spirit is what drives the partners and volunteers of the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health and enables new programs and funding to make way for a better quality of life for the residents of Tioga County.

These are all examples of the healthy culture of collaboration that exists in our county because so many believe in the art of partnering and "the glue" that is a partnership.

In a ddition to facilitating, implementing, or contributing to  the collaborative efforts listed above, the  Partnership has tackled the long standing transportation issue by  employing a coordinator who arranges transportation solutions for those in need and deemed eligible for services.

While we make remarkable strides in addressing community health issues through these efforts, we still need your help to continue. We are more reliant than ever on the generosity of the community!

If you've supported us in the past, we thank you whole-heartedly and ask that you please continue your support.   If you are new to us, p lease consider a donation to the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health this giving season.

To our steadfast partners, faithful supporters, friends new and dear, we give thanks.  We wish you a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

We're Too Good For Drugs!
Blossburg and Mansfield Elementary school students have been taking part in the evidence-based Too Good For Drugs prevention program being delivered by the Partnership's Prevention Specialist, Coleen Evert. Coleen has noted the abundance of positive  feedback during the implementation of this program. Teachers have reported that kids, "really like this!" and express the need for the Too Good For Drugs program. You see, while t he Too Good for Drugs program covers  peer pressure refusal skills, it  also incorporates lessons that cover listening skills,  decision-making, how to be a good friend,  how to set a goal, and how to handle stress and frustration in a positive way.  Other feedback includes how excited kids are to learn from Coleen and her helpers, Carmen the Cat, Wagner the Dog, and Auto the Robot.  Most notably, though, Coleen has reported that the kids are quickly absorbing the lessons and participating enthusiastically. When prompted by a decision-making story that poses a fork in the road, the children echo the lesson's intention by shouting, "Stop and think!"

This educational opportunity is made possible through a contract funded by the Tioga County Dept. of Human Services and with the dedication of the Southern Tioga School District who has made space in their already ambitious curriculum to allow us to offer this beneficial program; a program that is proven to decrease risks associated with drug use, antisocial behavior, school drop out rates, and low academic achievement. We are grateful for their cooperation and support and look forward to more fruitful partnerships that will brighten the future for our Tioga County kids!
