The following is my annual senior letter. I sent this letter earlier in the week to the members of the Class of 2017:
Dear Class of 2017,
You are entering a special time of your lives, preparing to transition from the high school scene to a time of much more independence.  I hope you won’t get so caught up in what’s next that you fail to appreciate what you have now and acknowledge the love others have for you.  I tried to share that sentiment with you on your senior retreat. Here are some thoughts I like to share with seniors around this time each year, beginning with the time leading up to your departure for college:
Mother's Day Mass & Reception
Sunday May 14 ~ 5 p.m.
BCHS Chapel
Please join us for Mass and a reception immediately following in the St. Benedict Center (Annex) Conference Room. This Mother's Day Mass & Reception is sponsored by the BCHS Alumni Board. All alumni, current and former parents and friends of Bishop Chatard are welcome!
Street Closure on May 19
Christ the King will be holding a field day on Friday, May 19. Crittenden Avenue will be closed from 10 a.m. - 2:10 p.m. on this day. This will affect BCHS dismissal, so please make adjustments accordingly.
Parent Technology Survey
Please fill out our short technology survey at the link below.  Technology is a critical part of your student's experience at BCHS, and we need your feedback to help us improve!  Your response is combined with responses from our students and faculty to give us a complete picture of our technology effectiveness in academics. The survey window closes on May 19. Thank you for your time!

Congratulations BCHS student journalists
Congratulations to Bishop Chatard student journalists Sian Rhodes, Kacee Haslett, Marissa Almack, Abby McDonald and Jacob deCastro. BCHS won 1st and 3rd place honors in the Woman's Press Club of Indiana "Best of the Best High School Journalism Competition."

The students' story in Trojan Matters magazine titled "Kneeling during the National Anthem sparks debate" took 1st place, and an editorial by Sian titled "Illiteracy hurts student, family and community" took 3rd place. Both of these stories earned 1st place honors in their respective categories from the WPCI and went on to the National Federation of Press Women competition, where they competed with 1st Place winners from other state affiliates. The sports story and editorial each received 2nd place honors in the national competition.

The WPCI Best of the Best competition judges all Indiana 1st place winners from various categories to determine which rise to the top. Joining BCHS in the Best of the Best top 3 is Carmel High School, which took 2nd place.

Awards were presented to students and journalism teacher Tracy Luke May 10 at BCHS by Natalie Hoefer, a WPCI/NFPW member and Criterion staff writer.
