PEN ART GALLERY OPENS
In what is the fulfillment of a long-held vision, Peninsula High proudly opened the Bradbury/Smith Gallery, a permanent gallery on our campus for the showcasing of our students' and community art. Peninsula High has a long history of excellence and innovation in the visual arts, and the Bradbury/Smith Gallery honors that tradition and reflects our ongoing commitment to the visual arts in our learning community. The gallery will allow our Visual Arts Department to host a variety of juried, topical, and media-based, and experimental shows through the year. Perhaps more important, it will allow for our students to interact with a gallery and art on a daily basis. As our gallery expands to include not only the exhibition of their work, but also real-world experience in roles as curator, preparatory, and critic.

BLOOD DRIVE SUCCESS
Thank you Service Learning Leadership for organizing Friday's awesome blood drive. Thank you panther family! We did the work and volume of a full day's blood drive on a minimum day. 150 people came through our drive, and we are thrilled. DRAMA TO PERFORM AT THE PANTAGES
Last week I shared that Penhi Drama received two Jerry Herman nominations. In addition to this great news, Penhi Drama has been invited to perform a scene from the Music Man on stage at the awards ceremony. The awards, hosted by KABC7 Entertainment reporter George Penacchio, will take place Monday, June 5 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

PROJECT EGO BANQUET
On May 23rd the annual Project Ego Awards Banquet was held at the
Rolling Hills Country Club
. The Project Ego class of 2017 successfully completed the year-long program, which included a ropes wilderness challenge at UC Irvine. At the banquet, the Palos Verdes Sunset Rotary club presented over $20,000 in scholarship money to these deserving students. Thank you to Project Ego coordinator and Peninsula High counselor, Kelly Baranick, for her commitment and passion for this program. TEEN COORDINATING COUNCIL VOLUNTEER AWARDS
On May 25, five Peninsula High students were selected as 2017 Teen Service Awards from the Palos Verdes Peninsula Coordinating Council. The honorees were invited to a lunch where their nomination letters were read. They received commendations from local, state, and national legislative representatives and a $300 prize from the Coordinating Council. Congratulations to Naomi Akiyama, Emma Sams, Emily Schluper, Jonathan Schmidt, and Kate Skaff.
In addition, each year the Coordinating Council honors one volunteer organization and this year they honored our Athletic Booster Club. Wendell Yoshida, Steve and Ceci Watts (Co-Presidents) were on hand to accept the award.
 MATTHEW BARRI SELECTED FOR GRAMMY CAMP
Matthew Barri (10th grade) has been accepted to attend Grammy Camp this summer on the campus of University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, focusing on the Electronic Music Production career track. This unique summer program brings together youth with outstanding artists and music Industry professionals. Only 119 talented high school students from 104 U.S. cities and 29 U.S. states have been selected as participants in the13th annual GRAMMY Camp®program. More information about this program is HERE. Matthew will also be DJ-ing during the Palos Verdes Fair's Teen Night on June 9.

Annual Music Banquet: The Music Department held their annual awards banquet this past week. Mr. Steiner and Mr. Doctor presented over 60 awards to music students from Choir, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Marching/ Concert Band, and Color Guard. F

PTSA SPONSORED INTERNATIONAL LUNCHEON
Help Us Deliver a Culinary Adventure as a Tribute to Pen's Teachers and Staff
Do you love to cook? Do you like to cook?
Do you have a favorite restaurant you can order from?
The PVPHS PTSA International Luncheon is approaching and we need your help. This event is a favorite tradition for all Peninsula teachers and staff (over 230 people) and you can help us say thank you as we provide an amazing international end of the year spread.
What we need:
- Main Dishes: 10-15 hearty servings of your favorite "international" dish (Italian, Persian, Greek, Asian, Mexican, Indian, etc...) American food would also be great...Texas chili, Louisiana Jambalaya, Southern Fried Chicken, Hawaiian chicken, casseroles, etc...)
- "International" Side Dishes, Salads, Finger foods
- Desserts (cakes, cheesecakes, pies)
The event is THIS Wednesday, May 31 in the main gym. Start thinking about what you could make, bake, cook, purchase, order and deliver that day. And, if you have a friend that you know would love to contribute also, but you know they are too busy cooking to have read this announcement, please send us their contact info and we'll ask them ourselves.

On May 23, forty-two National Chinese Honor Society seniors received their cords for graduation. In addition, 40 new members were inducted.

TSA UPDATE
In 2016-2017, the TSA Event & TEAMS at PVPHS have been organized by the phenomenal presidents Regina Lee (12th, Caltech), Caroline Kim (12th, Stanford), Alisa Hathaway (11th), Saehui Hwang (11th), and Vice president Erika Hathaway (12th, UC Berkeley). Our school teams and members have won multiple awards led by tremendous leadership of seniors. We honor the graduating TSA seniors from the bottom of our hearts.

2017-2018 Schedule Change Requests
If a student would like to make a change to their 2017-2018 schedule requests, they must turn in a handwritten note signed by a parent/guardian to their School Counselor no later than June 8, 2017. No changes will be made without a parent/guardian signature.
After June 8 all requests must be emailed to the Associate Principal of the Counseling Office. After July 14th students will have to see their School Counselor in August during program change days. Please remember counselors do not work during the summer. The Associate Principal of the Counseling Office will only respond to scheduling requests via email. If you have questions about scheduling, please contact Mr. Farrell [email protected]
Any course request for which the student was not recommended and does not meet the course prerequisites must be accompanied by a Request for Placement form. These forms may be found on the pvphs.com website under COUNSELING and were due in the Counseling Office by May 19, 2017.
Non-PVPUSD Summer School Classes
If you are planning on taking a summer school course somewhere other than Palos Verdes Peninsula Summer School (pvpss.com), you must get approval from your counselor prior to enrolling. Please see your counselor for the required form. IMPORTANT NOTE: Counselors do not work in the summer, so students must complete the appropriate paperwork and request approval by May 23rd, 2017. Any course taken without prior counselor approval will not be added to your PVPHS transcript.
Seniors
You have made your decisions and now it's time to order your FINAL TRANSCRIPTS! Come to the Counseling Office and see Mrs. Juge. Remember if you are playing sports next year, you must order a final transcript for NCAA. Don't wait until the last minute!
Attention Junior Athletes
If you are planning to play NCAA D1 or D2 sports in college, you will need to register with the NCAA through eligibilitycenter.org. Once you have registered, college coaches are then free to contact you for recruiting purposes. It is recommended that you send a transcript to the NCAA this summer, after your second semester grades have posted. The Counseling Office is open during the summer to process this request. If you want to verify that your PVPHS coursework will meet NCAA requirements, please notify your counselor.
