From Victim to Conqueror - A Mother's Experience with Human Trafficking Webinar
Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 2PM-2:30PM

Federal and state governments have focused on passage of legislation, training law enforcement officers and, more recently, educating health and social service providers providing services needed by survivors. Less effort has been focused on educating at risk women/girls and their families regarding human trafficking. Melinda Griffith, a member of the San Joaquin County Human Trafficking Task Force, will share her personal experience as the parent of a woman who was trafficked by a family friend as well as lessons learned.

Bringing Light to Motherhood App
Maternal Mental Health Now

This resource has been designed to help you feel more prepared to adjust to the demands, joys, and stressors of pregnancy and parenting. To help educate women and make them feel more comfortable, Maternal Mental Health NOW has developed Bringing Light to Motherhood , a mobile web-based app designed to decrease the stigma and shame associated with maternal depression, increase a patient's motivation to engage in treatment and provide tools for self-care and managing stress during this vulnerable period.  The app provides basic psycho-education for pregnant and new moms about the transition to motherhood including information about the emotional changes that often occur during the pregnancy and the postpartum period, the effects of untreated perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, tips and strategies for managing stress, guides to determine when to seek professional help and an opportunity to create a postpartum care plan.

Please check it out and share this app with the expectant and new mothers you are working with -  app.maternalmentalhealthnow.org

Serena Williams Talks Motherhood

Serena Williams did an interview with Vogue discussing motherhood and the myths surrounding it. She speaks out about her struggles after giving birth and being bedridden. She broke down every time her baby cried, angry because of the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty. Williams proves that wealth, status, and success don't matter- no woman is immune to these feelings.

The Afterglow PMADs Support Group Training
Available in Las Vegas and Reno

Ashley Hanna Morgan will be facilitating a training that discusses the facts and research surrounding PMADs in moms and dads, going over group theory and dynamics, and using her curriculum as a guide:  The Afterglow: A Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorder Support Group Curriculum. While all parents need support, this group is designed specifically for parents who experience anything that falls under Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD), such as Perinatal or Postpartum Depression (PPD) or Prenatal or Postpartum Anxiety (PPA), anxiety, OCD, or PTSD. Whether you're a licensed mental health clinician of some kind, a nurse, a doula, a mid-wife, a lactation consultant, a grandparent, a rabbi, a pastor, or a parent who has fully recovered from a PMAD, you're qualified to lead a support group with a curriculum like this one to guide you. A good rule of thumb is to have been in recovery for at least a year before facilitating a support group for others.

GPS Training
March 5th to March 7th, 2018

GPS for Parents is based on over 20 years of work by the founders of MotherWoman, Annette Cycon, LICSW and Liz Friedman, MFA. Their innovative support group model has been successfully replicated nationally and has been shown to have significant positive effects on parenting. GPS for Parents is culturally co-created to ensure that all parents benefit from this approach to peer support. It's geared to providing the map to help naviage the challenges of parenting. This group is an integrated and intersectional community-based approach that supports the full spectrum of parenting.

This training welcomes professionals and community leaders who serve and reflect diverse communities including fathers, mothers and gender non-conforming parents; parents who are facing the challenges of new parenting including perinatal emotional complications, addiction, incarceration, racism and other oppressions, as well as parents from diverse traditions and cultures.

Come and join us in this three day training, March 5 through March 7, for Group Peer Support for perinatal Parents and Parents in Recovery. Participating in the full three days is strongly encouraged. CEU's pending.
