Dear St Josaphat Community,
I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Marinel "Nel" Mullens has accepted the position as Principal of St Josaphat School.   Mrs. Mullens has over 20 years of educational experience in both parochial and public schools, which includes over 15 years in an Administrative role.  Most recently she served as Deputy Principal at Pope Francis Global Academy where she has been managing an evolving environment of four schools merging into two campuses. Prior to that, she was Assistant Principal at St. Paul of the Cross in Park Ridge and Principal, Assistant Principal and teacher in the Skokie public school system. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University.
The Principal Search Committee was especially impressed with Mrs. Mullens' collaborative leadership style and proven track record toward strategic goals and mission during times of transition.  She has been integral in interviewing and hiring personnel, integrating technology, implementing innovative programs, and developing faculty through in-classroom observations and mentoring.
Mrs. Mullens lives with her husband and three teenage sons in Park Ridge, and is an active member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish.
I know you will join me in offering a warm welcome to Mrs. Mullens; her official start date is July 12th. Before then she will begin the University of Notre Dame's Center for Transformational Educational Leadership program, a two year fellowship program funded by alumni donors. She is very excited about the opportunity. "I, along with 10 other principals in the Archdiocese of Chicago, were invited to be part of CTEL. The program includes a weeklong study at the University of Notre Dame over the summer as well as scheduled weekend trips to other schools across the country. CTEL coaches will also be making visits to our school regularly to observe the effectiveness of the implementation of practices."
I want to personally thank the Principal Selection Committee for supporting this effort. I also want to thank you for your prayers and continued commitment to our school.
