The Austin Liquors Wine Spotlight
W elcome to Eno-Files, an unpretentious look at wines from around the world complete with both deals and puns, brought to you by the good folks in the wine department at Austin Liquors!

Not even a remotely creepy label.  Nope.
W hen a crowd is coming for holidays of any type, I have a simple set of rules I follow to choose which wine to serve:

1.  It must taste good to everybody, not just the wine geeks.

2.  It must stand out from the usual.

3.  It must be enough of a value that you don't feel guilty seeing your weird aunt sucking it down mixed with some strawberries and ice cubes.

W ith that in mind, let me introduce THE white for Memorial Day Weekend... the 2015 Montes Spring Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.

Spring Harvest, you might ask?  Isn't all Chilean wine harvested during our spring?  Excellent job on the geography, you're 100% correct.  For Montes, though, Spring Harvest wines are those made from the brightest, earliest-ripening grapes, that fruit most likely to give wines with exceptionally fresh flavors.  In the case of Chile's Leyda Valley, this translates to a distinct regional style of Sauvignon Blanc dominated by aromas of peach, lime, and nectarine rather than the ubiquitous grapefruit nose New Zealand has made famous.  Change up the usual and impress the guests with your savvy!

The 2015 Montes Spring Harvest Sauvignon Blanc pours a clear, rich lemon hue with hints of gold in the reflection.  The nose is bright and intense enough to be detected outside of the glass, with a dominant note of lime peel giving way to ripe nectarine and a hint of fruity jalapeƱo pepper (a signature of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc).  The palate is dry and medium-bodied, with zippy, mouthwatering tartness and flavors of peach, lime, and fresh herbs that last and linger throughout the considerable finish.  Refreshing and easy-drinking, this is a surefire crowdpleaser that the "serious" wine folks will enjoy as well!

Pair with all the Memorial Day classics.  Grilled chicken wings, ceviche, and salads with citrus and arugula will all show off this wine's versatility, and once you're through the holiday weekend try it out with veal saltimbocca... this will really make the sage pop.  This wine is ready to drink now and will last another 1-3 years, and carries an 89 Point score from Wine Enthusiast.
