Reflections From Deacon Carter

On Sunday, June 4th, we will celebrate the Feast of the Pentecost, one of the seven major feast days in our church.  This is the day when we commemorate God sending the Holy Spirit upon Jesus' disciples.  It took the form of rushing wind and tongues of fire, which descended on each of them present.  The disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and "began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."  The speaking in tongues is thought, by some, to symbolize the church's worldwide preaching.

On this day, we commemorate not just the manifestation of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Christ, but also as an event signifying the birth of His church.  From that day forward His disciples were fully equipped to go out and spread the message of Jesus and to perform His ministry.

When I was growing up in the church, Pentecost was also known as Whitsunday, or White Sunday, referring to the color of the clothing worn by candidates for baptism.  It is a feast day that the Book of Common Prayer notes is "especially appropriate" for baptism and we are blessed to be having three baptisms that Sunday.  Appropriate wear for the day is red, signifying the arrival of the Holy Spirit in tongues of fire, if you have something red!

In addition, to celebrate this special day, we are going to have a wonderful "Dinner On The Grounds" following the 10:15 service.  Marci Arthur and her chefs from Truffles & Trifles will prepare a superb RED spaghetti dinner.  In order to ensure that we have the right amount of food please RSVP to the church office at 407-843-8448, by Tuesday May 31st.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we welcome and accept you, and we trust God to take you where God wants you in God's timing.  We want to be a safe place for you to experience God's grace, love, and presence with us.  Welcome home, Beloved.

Save the Date! June 4th

Youth Sunday Honors Recent Graduates

Recent Graduates Paul Fallas (left) and Connor Higgins (right) spoke on Youth Sunday about God and their experiences at SMC.

Youth Sunday is held twice a year with the May event honoring recent graduates.  Last Sunday, 14 graduates were listed in the Bulletin and Paul Fallas and Connor Higgins addressed the congregation.  Our youth served on the  altar, did the readings and intercessory prayers, and played in the band and all did a great job!

Pastoral Care Guild Gathering June 11

The central message of Christ's life and ministry was love.  We are to love God, love others and serve the world.  One way we can do that is through our pastoral response to our fellow church parishioners. And, this is what the Pastoral Care Guild is about!  Want to know more? Come join us, Sunday, June 11, after the 10:15 service in the Conference Room. Snacks and water will be provided; pick up hot beverages in Quigley before coming to the gathering. Thank you!

Need more info? Contact the PCG Ministers or the Church Office.  [email protected]   [email protected]   (407) 843-8448

A Plea for Help From the Gathering

making_bread_hands.jpg

So many regulars will be out of town the last two weeks of May that The Gathering needs help...badly!  They need all the help they can get! Also if people could start thinking about Summer, there are many weeks when our regular crews are on vacation and we need fill-ins.

We need lots of extra hands in the summer.  The contact person is Niki Nash (407) 616-7754 for information and to schedule your time with this important and life-giving ministry of SMC.
THANKS!
