What fun Emmitsburg tradition is 35 years old and is looked forward to by everyone in the Emmitsburg area? It's CARNIVAL time!

May 2017

My husband Kirk and I had the opportunity to vacation in Budapest and Vienna last month, and we attended Palm Sunday Mass at St. Augustine's in Vienna. To our surprise, we discovered that Austrians don't carry palms on Palm Sunday-they carry pussy willow branches. Thanks to Wikipedia, I now know that in the Slavic countries, this practice is common. The Mass was entirely in German, but it was pretty easy to follow along because it's just the same as Mass in English. As a convert, my husband has an interesting perspective: he says that one of the things he likes best about Catholicism is that the Mass is the same, all the world over, and he appreciates the sense of community that creates.

And speaking of community, our Mother Seton School community has many successes to share this month. Don't forget another great tradition that truly brings the community together each year-- the MSS Carnival! Many alumni return each year to help, so it's a great time to reconnect with classmates. It's this week and we'd love to see you join us! Click here for carnival info.

Also, make sure you watch for our next issue of our MSS Alumni News. It's a special graduation edition and we have a lot of exciting news to share!

Politics can be complicated and divisive these days, but regardless of party affiliation, I always feel better when I know an elected representative is a person of strong character and sound values. So I am thrilled to be able to congratulate Frank Ryan (MSS Class of 1965) on his recent election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing Pennsylvania's District 101, which encompasses part of Lebanon County.
