Greetings!
What a great celebration on Sunday afternoon! It was a joy for us to gather for Shirley Cook’s ordination along with representatives from the Christian Church in Kansas along with Shirley’s family and friends. I am always moved by the laying on of hands at an ordination service. Shirley said to me prior to the service that she hoped that she would do okay with that part of the service and with all of those hands on her head and shoulders. Instinctively, she knew that was going to be a critical moment in the service. I still remember that moment in my own ordination service - and I remember the weight of those hands. My hope for Shirley is that she will be audacious in her proclamation of the gospel and as she engages in whatever ministry God calls her to do. The world around us is ready to embrace many other messages and paths to walk. The gospel calls us to walk a different direction, one defined by love and grace. May Shirley, and indeed all of us, proclaim well God’s love and grace!
Peace,
Dale

Here are just a few teasers to get you started.
THE LITTLE PARIS BOOKSHELF by Nina George
A floating bookstore on a barge on the Seine, Monsieur Perdu is like a literary apothecary prescribing novels for all the hardships of life. His story and that of others takes you on a healing journey to the south of France.
The New York Times Review says this book is a love letter to books.
THE GIFT OF YEARS Growing Old Gracefully by Joan Chittister
This spiritual writer shows us how this is a special period of life that give us wisdom, freedom and prosperity of another kind. It describes what happens as old relationships disappear in favor of many new people and challenges that take their place. These are the capstone years that mark a whole new life in the making.
A LIGHT IN THE WINDOW by Jan Karon
Life in a small town is rarely quiet and never boring as the main character discovers. His neighbors and Cousin Meg all are involved in this bachelor’s need for divine intervention. This is the second novel in the Milford series.
These descriptions are taken from the writings of each book and do not reflect any opinion of the church. They were selected to showcase the wide variety of books available in the church library waiting for you.
Enjoy!
Please consider joining the library committee. We want you!
Welcome Sandi Reesor to the committee.

We hope you can make time to attend the baby shower for Heather and Maddie Bieker on June 24 at 1 pm at First Christian Church, Topeka, 1880 SW Gage. Please understand due to Miss Maddie’s premature birth, her doctors have advised that no one outside the immediate family, parents and grandparents, are to hold her for the time being, but looking and cooing are open to one and all.
Heather was generously showered by her fellow employees at the Waco Bed, Bath and Beyond in March. After a visit to Waco in April, I did learn that Maddie is very well outfitted with clothing for 0-3 months, 3-6 months but there is still definitely a need for many things from her registries and for clothing in both 9 or 12 months or larger.

Did you know that First Christian Church has a unique AmazonSmile link that makes it easier for people to find and support your organization?
What is my organization's unique link?
http://smile.amazon.com/ch/48-0554328
What does my unique link do?
When customers click on your organization's unique link, they skip the process to search for a charity to support among over 1 million eligible charities. Instead, they're taken to
smile.amazon.com
and are automatically asked if they want to support First Christian Church.
Can I just tell supporters to search for my charity at smile.amazon.com?
Yes. However, that makes it harder for your supporters to find and select your organization. There are over 1 million eligible charities, and customers may end up picking a different organization during the selection process. Sharing your charity link increases the likelihood that customers will select your charity before they start shopping.
Do my supporters have to click on my charity's AmazonSmile link every time they shop?
No. Once customers select your organization, you will receive 0.5% of the price of all their eligible
smile.amazon.com
purchases, regardless of whether they use your unique AmazonSmile link to return to the site. However, we recommend that you ask your supporters to bookmark and use your link so they don't accidentally shop at www.
amazon.com
instead of
smile.amazon.com
. Only purchases made at
smile.amazon.com
are eligible for donations.
What do customers that have already selected a charity see when they click on my organization's unique link?
If someone is already supporting your organization and they click on your unique link, they will simply be taken to
smile.amazon.com
so they can start shopping. They do not have to re-select your charity. If someone supporting a different charity clicks on your charity link, they are asked if they'd like to switch to support your organization.

Prayer Concerns
We invite you to use the following prayer or one of your own desire as you offer prayers for those listed in our prayer concerns.
O God, source of love and compassion in the sufferings of all your children, we offer our compassion also for the hungry, and the sick in body, mind, or heart, the depressed and the lonely, all living in fear and under stress, all stricken with grief, the unemployed and the rejected, and those burning with hatred. Strengthen us to work for their healing and inspire us to build with you the kingdom of love where none shall cause suffering to others and all be caring, loving children of yours. Our compassionate, all-embracing God, ever present, ever love, never failing, we pray to you. Amen. (Adapted from Chalice Worship #363 p. 343).

Technology Update
If you see a blank in the technology (sound, lights or power point) list on Sunday morning, that means there is no one assigned to that task on that Sunday. So your help is needed to fill these places. There is a small amount of training you would need, but anyone can learn. For assistance in learning to support the Technology Ministry please contact Vern Failor at 272-6102 or vlfailor@gmail.com
