Spectacular Seniors.... and Scholarships!
Graduation season is upon us and we are proud and thrilled for our seniors! Last week we held a reception to honor more than 70 CIS seniors receiving college scholarships. We celebrate with them and their parents and hold them up as inspiration and role models for our younger students. Below are just a few of these outstanding CIS seniors. Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

Adior Barac - Garinger High School
Garinger senior Adior Barac was recently selected the winner of a full college scholarship through the Tees For Tuition charity golf tournament, spearheaded by volunteers from the LPL Financial Institution Services team. The scholarship is valued at over $58,000 to cover 4 years ($14,645 per year) of tuition, room and board at a N.C. college of the recipient's choice. Adior has been accepted and is excited to attend Appalachian State University in the fall. Read More

Alexis Stewart - West Mecklenburg
Alexis was selected one of just 20 winners from across the country of a Footlocker Scholar-Athlete Award , valued at $20,000. Alexis is in the TRiO Talent Search program at West Mecklenburg High School and plans to attend Bethune-Cookman Universtiy in the fall. To be eligible for the Footlocker scholarship, the student must have maintained an unweighted 3.0 GPA every semester since the 9th grade! Alexis has a 4.2 GPA and graduated early, despite enduring a terrible car accident that took her father's life and left her seriously injured. Cheerleading is her sport and she received an Honorary Cheerleader Award from West Meck, and is currently the assistant cheer coach for the West Charlotte Cowboys.

Zykkiah Silver - East Mecklenburg
East Meck senior Zykkiah Silver has won a prestigious Chancellor's Scholarship to Appalachian State University, one of only 10 awarded to incoming freshmen. As described on their website, the Chancellor's Scholarship is ASU's "oldest and most academically competitive merit-based scholarship, designed for students with ambitious academic goals - those who seek graduate or professional post-baccalaureate degrees to become physicians, Ph.D. holders and more." New National Marketing Campaign features CIS-Charlotte Student and Site Coordinator
We're excited about the launch earlier this month of CIS National's newest marketing campaign - especially since it features a CIS-Charlotte Site Coordinator and student! Site Coordinator Jamall Kinard and his student at Independence High School, senior Alina Glover, will be seen on billboards, print and digital ads, airport displays and more. CIS National flew Jamall and Alina (and her mom), and four other Site Coordinator-student pairs from other affiliates across the country, to Washington, DC, to take part in the photo shoot. The campaign focuses on the relationships between Site Coordinators and students and various reasons why CIS is "In Schools." In social media, the campaign uses the hashtag #allinforkids. One of the Jamall-Alina ads was recently posted on a gigantic digital billboard in Times Square! Keep your eye out for Jamall, Alina and all the others!

Ann Clark Wins CIS National Award
CMS Superintendent Ann Clark was recently named the winner in the Superintendent category of CIS National's "All in For Students" Awards. This year, only five awards were given across the country - to one superintendent (Ann Clark), one principal, one CIS Site Coordinator, and two CIS alumni. Clark and the other winners were recognized at CIS National's 40th Anniversary "Townhall" event in Los Angeles May 10-12. A video (below) of each winner was created and shared at the event. Congratulations to Ann Clark and all of the #AllinforStudents Award winners!

***VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN AUGUST to help sort School Uniforms!***
It's hard to believe, but school will be back in session for the the 2017-18 school year in 96 days! (August 28).  And that means students will be needing school uniforms! CIS is expecting a large donation of uniforms in August and we will need volunteers to help sort and organize them for distribution to our school sites. We don't know the exact dates yet, but if you would be willing to help in this way, please contact Yeeva Cheng for more information. Thank you!
