SLIDING SCALE FEE FOR LEISURE ACCESS PROGRAM

A new Sliding Scale Fee Program that will benefit low-income Edmontonians will take effect June 1. Edmontonians who fall below and just above the low-income threshold will be able to access programs through the City of Edmonton's Leisure Access Program on a sliding scale fee consisting of three tier levels:
  • Tier One: Edmontonians living at or below the Low Income Cut Off will receive a full subsidy on annual membership admission, 75 per cent subsidy on registered programs and materials (up to four times), and inclusion within the Low Income Transit Pass program application.
  • Tier Two: Edmontonians earning up to 10 per cent above the Low Income Cut Off will receive a full subsidy on annual membership admission and 75 per cent subsidy on registered programs and materials (up to four times).
  • Tier Three: Edmontonians earning between 11 per cent and 25 per cent above the Low Income Cut Off will receive a partial subsidy - $20 All Facility monthly recreation/attraction membership or $70 All Facility monthly recreation/attraction family membership.

SENIORS' HEALTH IN THE GTA: HOW IMMIGRATION, LANGUAGE, AND RACIALIZATION IMPACT SENIORS' HEALTH

This report investigates the impact of immigration, language, and racialized identity on social determinants of health outcomes (e.g. income, education, employment, sense of belonging to local community, and health care access) as well as self-reported health and mental health across ethnically and linguistically diverse senior populations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Although the report focuses on seniors in the GTA, it may provide background to understand the experiences of immigrant and refugee seniors living in Edmonton.

PROVIDE INPUT ON RECREATION FACILITIES

The City of Edmonton is hosting public engagement sessions about the Recreation Facility Master Plan. The feedback will be used to shape the City's approach to recreation facilities and services for the next 20 years. Seniors are encouraged to attend an upcoming session to help inform the discussion and ensure the feedback the city gets is not just from younger people and parents.
  • May 30: Clareview Recreation Centre, 4-8 p.m.
