Is Summer the best time for my student to take an SAT/ACT prep course?
When is the best time to take the SAT and/or ACT?

Although many schools recommend that students wait to take the exams in the Spring, CCPrep recommends that many students instead prep over the summer and take the exams during the Fall of the Junior Year.

CCPrep recommends these students take the Fall Exams:

1. Students who are in multiple AP Courses (you will be busy in the spring)
2. Students who have completed enough math (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2)
3. Students who feel they'll need to take the test multiple times
4. Students who will be too busy in the Spring (with sports or other obligations)

Do I prep for one or both exams?

After the recent redesign of the SAT, there is substantial (over 75%) overlap between the SAT and ACT exams. Prepping for one is essentially prepping for both. Students tend to be better at one of the two tests, but it's very difficult to accurately predict which exam a student will ultimately be better at. As a result, we recommend students initially prep for both exams. This allows students to explore both tests and rest assured that they found the test that's right for them.

How does one best prep for the SAT and ACT?

There are a few goals within SAT/ACT preparation

1. Knowledge: The SAT and ACT will ask about specific math and grammar rules and concepts. It is important to know these, and our course is designed to cover every major topic on the tests.
2. Strategy: The SAT and ACT ask questions in unique ways that students haven't seen in their high school courses. Our SAT/ACT programs equip students with time-tested strategies on every major question type seen on the exams.
3. Practice: After learning the concepts and strategies, targeted practice allows students to work on areas of weakness and bolster their recognition of question types.

CCPrep provides multiple preparation options

Our SAT/ACT Courses are designed to accomplish the three goals mentioned above and can be offered in a small group or one-on-one setting. In addition, we provide Individual Tutoring to target areas of weakness and provide the additional practice and associated analysis some students need to further improve.
