Demystifying the Book of Revelation:

What does the Book of Revelation mean? Does it have a message for today? This is a six part video series taught by Father Bill Burton. Father Bill is an expert at explaining parts of the Bible that baffle us. In this case, he also busts myths that have been perpetuated for centuries. We are meeting for six Sundays and studying the following topics:

 - The Genre of Apocalyptic Literature and How to "Read" It

- Jewish Sources, Like the Book of Daniel, that Inspired Revelation's Author

- The Basics: Who wrote Revelation? When? What does the book say?

- What Makes this Book So Attractive to So Many?

- The Erroneous "Rapturist" Interpretation

- A Better Understanding

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 25th, at 7pm, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.  As a liturgical church that has a sacred calendar, we are blessed with these 'midweek' interruptions.  They cause us to pause, to stop and pray, and to thank God for the salvation of the world.  Our patron saint, Athanasius, is remembered for saying, "God became man that man might become god." This truth is seen in the Ascension.  Human flesh, the flesh that we share in, ascended into the heavenly life of God.  Part of what makes us human is now inextricably linked to God.  This is something worth celebrating!
     Peace,
     Chris
What is Fr. Chris Reading now?

Currently I am reading 'Breathing Under Water' by Fr. Richard Rohr, a Franciscan priest living in Albuquerque.  The book is an examination of the spirituality of the famous Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Whether you are struggling with alcohol or some other addiction, or simply want a book to help you confront your own passions, obsessions, or faults, this is a wonderful book.  Full of great wisdom and probing questions, I highly recommend it.

To order the book, you can go to:
https://smile.amazon.com and be sure to select TOTH as your charity.
UNITED THANK OFFERING (UTO)
This Sunday!

UTO  (United Thank Offering) - Our Spring Ingathering will be this Sunday, May 28.  If you have picked up a little blue box to fill with coins representing your thanks for God's blessings the last few week, please bring to church.   Alternatively, you may want to keep filling it and bring your offering in for the Fall Ingathering!   There will also be envelopes in the Narthex to pick up on your way into the service on Sunday.  Both bills and checks are also most welcome!

Lord God, thank you for your faithful people giving thanks and sharing with those in need.  Keep us mindful of all our abundant blessings and for the opportunity to spread Your love both near and far. Amen.

DIOCESE OF THE RIO GRANDE

Ascension Day
   [May 25]

Almighty God,
whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Episcopal, ELCA presiding bishops issue joint statement calling for prayer, fasting for hunger awareness
| May 18, 2017 |
[Episcopal Church Office of Public Affairs press release] Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) have issued a joint statement calling for prayer, fasting and advocacy.
The statement, For Such a Time as This: A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Advocacy, calls for fasting on the 21st of each month through December 2018, at which time the 115th Congress will conclude.
The 21st of each month is targeted because by that time each month, 90% of SNAP (formerly food stamp) benefits have been used, thereby causing the last week of the month as the hungry week in America.
The fast will launch with a group of national and local leaders doing a three-day fast together May 21-23. These leaders include Presiding Bishop Curry, Presiding Bishop Eaton, and leadership throughout the Episcopal Church.

Icon Painting Workshop in the Byzantine-Russian Tradition
The Prosopon School of Iconography
June 12-17 in Santa Fe
"This expanded course offering involves the study of the ancient floating technique of icon painting in the Byzantine Russian tradition, which reached its height in the XV-XVI centuries. Students will study the many-stepped method of layering egg tempera. Gesso application, gilding on bole, and final olipha application will also be taught. Each step has a symbolic and theological basis as a liturgical art. This basis will be taught parallel to the technique. Normally, each individual student completes an Icon by the end of the course. A background in art is NOT required to be successful in this course. Beginner and Advanced students welcome."

Classes are daily, 9am to 4pm, with one hour break for lunch. Location: Saint Anne School, Alicia Street, Santa Fe. The instructor is Father Mefodii, a Priest-monk from the Skete of Saint Maximos the Confessor in Palmyra, Virginia. Tuition is discounted until May 31; final payment is due June 12.
