Alford believes it will be a great place for local companies to set up tables to meet people, give stuff to participants and even sign-up teens who are looking for summer employment.

WestJet Sends Special Message to RHS Media Conference
Roxbury High School kicked off its 4th Annual Media Conference on May 20th with a special surprise.
Each year students in the Mass Media class participate in a gratitude project expressing appreciation to a group in the school or greater community.
While the holiday season generally brings kind gestures, WestJet airlines was the motivation behind teacher Deborah Burleigh's project for her students. "I watched the first video and could not get over how special they made people feel. Their kindness and how excited the employees were to make people smile really stuck with me. I cry every time I watch them. It really gets to my core. They do a brilliant job of branding their business and clearly express the value that their customers matter."

Roxbury's Instrument Test Drive is Music to Our Ears
The
Roxbury High School Instrumental Music Department held a Roxbury Instrument Test Drive for all fourth-grade students on May 24th. This event was designed to be an "open house" where students and their families could come and test out possible instruments to be played next year.
"Our goal at the Instrument Test Drive was to expose children to the instruments available to them next year with the opportunity to play each one. A teacher guided each child through a few basic steps of creating an initial sound on each instrument," shared sixth-grade band director, Kate Katz.
40 students originally signed up for the event but in actuality, more than 100 attended. The staff was thrilled with the turnout.

Roxbury Baseball Updates:
Roxbury Baseball Beats West Essex, Moves to State Semifinals
It's on to the state semifinals for the Roxbury High School baseball team which didn't let a 2-run West Essex homer in the first inning stop it from winning the May 26 quarter-final game.
The Gaels, who won 8-4, didn't take long to respond. After coming back quickly with three runs of its own to end the inning up 3-2, Roxbury kept up the pressure as starting pitcher Darren Wyse held down the fort on the mound.
He threw 57 pitches before being relieved by Michael Roumes and Thomas Darling.
The West Essex game was Roxbury's final home game of the year. The team, now 17-8, advances to a semifinal game on May 30.

18-8 Roxbury Baseball Season Ends with State Tournament Loss
The Roxbury High School baseball team's season, and its hopes for a state championship, came to a damp end on March 30 when it lost a state tournament semifinal game to Pascack Valley High School.
Roxbury finishes the year 18-8.
After a promising start in which the Gaels opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning, fifth-seeded Roxbury fought hard but couldn't overcome a fifth inning go-ahead-run by the top-seeded Indians.
The pitching duel ended with Pascack Valley winning 3-2 and heading to a state tournament dual with Morris Hills on Friday.
Roxbury pitcher Donovan Brady pitched a great game, but a 2-out,, bottom-of-the-fifth hit by Pascack Valley pitcher Riley Weis allowed the winning run to score. Brady struck out five batters, walked none and allowed only seven hits.

Riley Weis hit a late go-ahead RBI to push top-seeded Pascack Valley to a 3-2 victory over fifth-seeded Roxbury in the semifinals of the North 1, Group 3 tournament in Hillsdale.
Roxbury took an early lead by scoring two runs in the second inning, but Pascack Valley tied the game up by scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Weis hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give his team the lead.
Weis also threw a five-hitter with nine strikeouts, two walks and one earned run. Alex DeRosea also drove a run home for the home team while going 2-for-3.

Roxbury Boys Lacrosse Updates:
Roxbury Boys Lacrosse Falls to Summit in Hard Fought State Final
Despite playing a tremendous first half, which saw it build a 3-goal lead, the second-seeded Roxbury High School boys lacrosse team was eventually caught and passed by top-seeded Summit, falling 6-5 in the NJSIAA North, Group 3 Final.

The
Summit boys lacrosse program is renowned for its defensive prowess, often winning low-scoring games when the stakes are at their highest.
That rang true once more for the Hilltoppers on Saturday afternoon when they held a high-octane
Roxbury
offensive attack goal-less for the final 34 minutes of the game. Click here to read additional game coverage from NJ.com.

'Each mark he hits, he's always ready for the next one.' Roxbury's Sembrat wins N1, G3 400m sectional title
 For quite some time,
Kevin Sembrat had aspirations of gold medals.
Only thing was, it wasn't in track - it was in wrestling.
"I'm a real goal-oriented guy," the
Roxbury junior said Friday. "All my favorite athletes, you see they set goals for themselves. My goal was to be on the podium in Atlantic City for wrestling."
That dream took a backseat this winter, when Sembrat opted to forego his junior wrestling season in favor of participating in winter track. The move paid off, as Sembrat went on to become the 300-meter Morris County champion, the 400-meter sectional champion and qualified for the Indoor Nationals last winter.
On Friday, at the North 1, Group 3 sectional championships at River Dell, Sembrat's hot streak continued as he captured the 400-meter sectional title, running his final heat in 48.38 seconds to edge second-place finisher Liam Fost of West Essex (49.46) and third-place finisher Tyler Hayek of Wayne Hills (49.69).

Roxbury High School Athletes Raising Money for National Championships
As the school year winds down, the Roxbury track and field teams are just gearing up.
For the first time in the history of the program, 11 athletes have qualified to participate in this year's Outdoor National Championships. They will take place from June 16-18 in Greensboro, N.C.
Those students include Lexi Smith, Kevin Sembrat, Karly Forker, Tyshon Bradley, Jordan Morris, Victor Arias, Jess Cammarata, Harley Heun, Kayla Bedel-Franklin, Brandon Longtine and Bridget Doherty
The entire program is buzzing with excitement in anticipation of the meet.
Participation in the National Championships doesn't come without a price, though. Through the program's booster club, the teams have set up a
GoFundMe page
to raise money for travel expenses. The ultimate goal is, of course, to send all 11 athletes to Greensboro. It won't happen without help from outside.
The student-athletes are taking it upon themselves to reach out to local businesses and other connections within the community.

Kindness for Christopher Color Fun Run - June 11th
Join the Roxbury High School's Interact Club for its 4th Annual Color Fun Run on Sunday, June 11th at Horseshoe Lake. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the event starting at 10.
In the past 3 years, they've raised a total of $47,000 for families in need, such as Mike Corrente and Joey Clayton, who were both suffering from brain cancer. These runs attract people from all over the state, and around the country, who want to raise money and have fun! We have a
color run
, zumba class, musical performances, a DJ, sandwiches, ice cream, a color throw, and more!!
This year, our cause is
Kindness for Christopher. Christopher D'Amico is a 10-year-old boy who passed away at Lake Hopatcong after a pontoon boating accident. Christopher was always smiling, and spread kindness wherever he went. Because of this, the D'Amico family decided not to let his legacy of joy fade. They started a small movement, encouraging people to commit random acts of kindness, particularly on the 24th of every month. This movement quickly grew ten-fold, and is now worldwide!
Our mission is to raise money to aid the family in spreading kindness in every way possible. So this is our challenge for you: In addition to the $25 ticket price ($30 if you pay the day of and $20 if you are a group of 10 or more), we ask that you do one random act of kindness for someone, whether it is carrying groceries, leaving a nice note on someone's car, buying coffee for a person in front of you online, bringing home flowers for a loved one, or doing ANYTHING that will spread Christopher's legacy of kindness.
Take a picture or write a description and email it to
kmathis17@students.roxbury.org and your act of kindness will be displayed at the Color Fun Run! Also, tweet your picture and hashtag it with
#ColorForChistopher to spread the word!

Warriors' Sacrifices Not Forgotten in Roxbury
The rain that forced the cancelation of this year's Roxbury Memorial Day Parade did not keep people away from the township Senior Center to pay their respects to members of the military who died while serving the nation.
It was an often somber affair. Speakers reminded the audience that the all-American fun dampened by the inopportune rainfall - the outdoor gatherings, the hamburgers and hot dogs - are part of the beloved freedom preserved by warriors' sacrifices.
"Today, we pay tribute to those heroic patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice, who bravely rose up and fought for something greater than themselves," said Roxbury VFW Post 2833 Commander John Lehnert. "We honor their service. Mourn their loss and remember the families they left behind."
There were many children in the standing-room-only audience. Many wore clothing that - in one form or another - included American flags.
Click here to read more about how these warriors' sacrifices were honored by Tap Into Roxbury.

Check Your Honeywell Settings!
Don't wait until severe weather hits to check your settings. You may want to change your time time settings from Midnight to Midnight and have more than one way of being contacted...i.e. phone call/text message and or email. This way if the phone lines are down/circuits are busy etc., you are covered.
