Republican Pension Reform Advocates Appointed by San Jose Mayor

Jim Reed

Two Republicans who are pension reform leaders, Jim Reed and Pete Constant, have been appointed to key positions by incoming San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo.

Jim Reed will serve as Liccardo's Chief of Staff. "Jim's demonstrated an ability to reach across the aisle and forge relationships with many who don't agree," Liccardo told San Jose Inside. "I think he can play a really strong leadership role."

Jim Reed has been serving as Vice President of Public Policy for the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, where he has been heavily involved in pension reform efforts.  He has been a city council member in Scotts Valley since 2007 and served as mayor in 2010 and 2014.  He has also been active with the Santa Cruz County Republican Party.

Liccardo, a Democrat and a pension reform supporter, also named Pete Constant as a Senior Policy Advisor,

primarily on fiscal reform, public safety and pension issues.  Constant has just completed his second and final term as Councilmember for San Jose's District 1.  Pete Constant has been the architect of pension reform on the council.

Of course, Pete is also well known to Republican activists.  He served as Vice Chair of the Santa Clara County GOP, where he provided strategic campaign leadership, raised money, and taught at campaign schools, among many other efforts.

The Santa Clara County Republican Party has made pension reform for San Jose public employees a priority issue.  The Party strongly backed the successful Measure B ballot measure, as well as Republican Councilmember Johnny Khamis, a pension reform supporter.  The City of San Jose is the 10th largest city in the United States.

Jim Brulte and Harmeet Dhillon Deserve Reelection
as CRP Chair and Vice Chair

California Republican Party Chair Jim Brulte recently announced plans to run for reelection for another two year term as head of the state party.  Brulte's decision comes in the wake of CRP's success in breaking the Democrats' supermajority in both houses of the legislature, as well as defeating incumbent Democrats for the first time since 1994.

Brulte, who ran to be a "nuts and bolts" chairman, also has had success in eliminating the party's debt, reaching new constituencies, and assisting party building at the local level.  He dramatically increased fundraising for the CRP, raising almost 23 million dollars in the 2013-2014 cycle.

CRP Vice Chair Harmeet Dhillon is also running for reelection.  On the board of the state party, she has served as a principal media spokesperson for the party; provided pro bono legal advice; served on the Audit Committee, which conducted a multi-year review of fiscal operations; and served on the personnel, budget, and convention committees.  At the same time, she continues to chair the Republican Party in San Francisco.

The CRP officer elections will be held at the CRP Convention, which will be held in Sacramento Friday-Sunday, February 27-March 1.  Information will be available on the BayAreaGOP Convention Page as it develops.  I hope you will plan to attend and support the reelection of both Jim and Harmeet.

Best regards,
Luis
