2016 RDGA Mid Amateur Championship
visits venerable
Chili Country Club
for the first time in the 10th anniversary edition of the championship. Scheduled for
August 12
and
13
, competitors will tour the beautifully-maintained, par-72 semi-private course which also features one of the largest pro shops in the area.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the
RDGA Mid Amateur Championship
is open to all amateur male golfers age 25 and over (as of the beginning of each year's tournament) who are members in good standing at RDGA clubs. All contestants must have a RDGA/USGA Handicap Index supplied by the RDGA. In addition to the Championship trophy, the winner receives an exemption into the following year's
RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial.
Registration for the
2016 RDGA Mid Amateur Championship
is open through
August 8
. The $135 entry fee includes two rounds of golf, use of the practice range, cart, a tee gift, prizes and an hors d'ouvres reception and awards ceremony following the final round.

JUNIOR GIRLS, SUB JUNIOR GIRLS and PEE WEES
- THERE'S STILL TIME TO REGISTER
FOR THE 2016 RDGA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS!
The
2016 RDGA Junior Championships are coming to
Clifton Springs Country Club
on August 2 through 4 - and there's still time to register for Junior Girls (ages 15 to 17), Sub Junior Girls (ages 12 to 14) and all Pee Wees (ages 7 to 11).
Next week, players looking to contend for the 2016 District Junior Boys and Sub-Junior Boys will be competing in a qualifier at Parkview Fairways to determine the starting field for the Junior Championship at Clifton Springs next month. However, the Junior Girls, Sub Junior Girls and all Pee Wees do not have to pre-qualify and can still register for the Junior Championships through July 24.
The Junior Girls will play 36 holes of stroke play over August 3 and 4; Sub Junior Girls will play 9 holes of stroke play each day of the Championship (for a total of 27 holes). The Pee Wee competition will feature 18 holes of stroke play, with nine holes each on August 3 and 4.

Two-time defending champion Trevor Sluman teed off on No.1 in the first round of the 86th RDGA District Championship at Ridgemont Country Club on Wednesday, July 13.
86TH RDGA DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTED BY RIDGEMONT
The 86th RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Memorial opened on Wednesday, July 13, at Ridgemont Country Club in Greece. The beautifully-maintained club was hosting the championship for the 10th time this year and for the first time since 2007.
Prior to the start of the Championship, on Tuesday, a special opening drive ceremony was held on the first tee.
James Infantino
, the 1967 District Champion at Ridgemont, hit the ceremonial first tee shot, followed by two-time defending District Champion
Trevor Sluman
.
As the competition opened this week,
Sluman
followed-up an opening round 72 by coming out of the gate fast in Round 2, carding three birdies in his first nine holes of the day and went on to post a 4-under-par 68 for the round to leapfrog over a talented field and take a 4-shot lead going into Round 3 on Friday.
In second place after two rounds was Brook-Lea's
Evan Gaesser
- the 2016 Section V High School champion - who posted his second consecutive score of even-par 72. First-round leader
Jack Gianniny
from the Country Club of Rochester is third after a score of 79 on Thursday for a two-day total of 4-over-par 148.
Following the completion of Round 2, the starting field of 113 was cut to the low 40 players and ties.
Also taking place last week was the
7th RDGA Women's Championship Danielle E. Downey Memorial
, a two-day, 36-hole medal play competition for a field of top women amateurs in the Rochester area. Brook-Lea's
Sara Eichelberger
is the defending champion. This year's competition also includes a Women's Senior Championship.

RYANS HONORED WITH CEREMONIAL
PAIRING AT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
One of the special commemorations during the
86th RDGA Championship
John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial at
Ridgemont Country Club was the ceremonial pairing of contestant
Chuck Ryan with his sons,
John Ryan II and
Joe Ryan during the first and second rounds.
Chuck Ryan, brother of the late John H. Ryan Jr., the namesake of the RDGA Championship and a two-time champion, paid tribute by wearing a the type of "bucket" hat that his brother typically wore. The group also brought along the clubs often used by John H. Ryan Sr., who passed away last November.
