What a week we have enjoyed! Our Spring Concert and Art Festival showcased a tremendous amount of talent in the school. It was truly a wonderful celebration, and I am so grateful to all who worked to put it all together. Another "thank you" to those who got up early the next day for our 5K and 1K Peace run. The weather was beautiful, as was the community. Thanks to Mrs. Moran, Mr. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. DeWolfe, Ms. Salinger-Swett, the Knights of Columbus, and all who helped out. Congratulations to all the winners. Like last year, I hold the bragging rights for coming in last!!

This is our last Buzz for the school year, and I want to say a huge "thank you" to Mrs. McGuire for her tireless efforts in getting this put together and sent out each week. We are so grateful, and look forward to having her continue her great work next year.

I hope that we will see many of you at our last school Mass and awards ceremony next Wednesday (June 14). We invite you to join us for Mass that morning, and please note that everything should be wrapped up by 11:00am and we will dismiss then, with no Extended Day.

I wish you all a peaceful, restful summer, and look forward to seeing the students return in the fall. Please be assured of my prayers for your family during the summer months.

May we make our homes places of relaxation,
joy, love, peace and safety.
May we be generous and considerate,
not thinking only about ourselves,
but helping others enjoy the blessings of the summertime.
Lord God, Creator of all things,
guide our steps and strengthen our hearts
during these months of summer and vacation days.
Grant us refreshment of mind and body.
May we constantly strive to make a meaningful difference
in the lives of our loved ones and in the world around us
as we enjoy the warm days of summertime.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

5k Peace Run/1k Fun Run

Congratulations and thank you to our Peace Run participants!  You all looked great out there!  A little early Saturday morning exercise was duly rewarded with ice cream sundaes from the St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus and a Chick-fil-A sandwich!

The weather Saturday was made to order.  Lots of enthusiasm and energy permeated the air at the Sprague Technology Center as the runners took their mark.  This was a fitting location as the race proceeds help to further St. Ambrose's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program.

Many thanks to our Silver Sponsors: Case Design, Ann G. Kemps, DDS & Stephen Mabry, DDS LLC, and John H. Lange Plumbing & Heating; Our Bronze Sponsors: Center for Dentofacial Aesthetics, Design Pro, Flynn & O'Hara, and Klima Orthodontics. We would also like to thank Chick-fil-A Springfield, the St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus, Giant - Annandale, Safeway - Annandale, Shopper's - Fairfax, Costco - Springfield, and Bongo the Clown.

SMART ACCOUNTS

Please note, as the year comes to an end and we transition to FACTS, our plan is for SMART accounts to remain open through July to allow for June Extended Day billing.  If for some reason we are unable to bill in SMART, those charges will be added to your FACTS account.  Beginning August 1 or when your SMART account has a zero balance it will be closed by the school.  Please also be aware that your first tuition payment will be due in FACTS in July.

Water Safety

Pools, lakes, ponds, and beaches mean summer fun and cool relief from hot weather. But water also can be dangerous for children if parents do not take the proper precautions. Nearly 1,000 kids die each year by drowning. And most drowning happens in home swimming pools. It is the second leading cause of accidental death for people between the ages of 5 and 24.

The good news is there are many ways to keep your children safe in the water - and make sure that they take the right precautions when they are on their own.

Keeping Children Safe

Children need constant supervision around water - whether the water is in a bathtub, a wading pool, an ornamental fish pond, a swimming pool, a spa, the beach, or a lake.

Young children are especially at risk - they can drown in less than 2 inches of water. That means drowning can happen where you would least expect it - the sink, the toilet bowl, fountains, buckets, inflatable pools, or small bodies of standing water around your home, such as ditches filled with rainwater. Always watch children closely when they are in or near any water.
