Celebrating the Day of Pentecost, June 4. Sunday, June 4, marks the "birthday of Christianity." Fifty days after the Day of Resurrection, God in Christ imparted the Holy Spirit to all sorts and conditions of people. Mysteriously, they spoke in numerous tongues, yet with one voice, to reveal interconnection to God and one another. On the Day of Pentecost we will welcome the return of our Rector, the Reverend Ollie V. Rencher. Our celebration will include baptisms, magnificent music, and a parish picnic in Independence Park.

Note: Incense (hypoallergenic) will be burned on June 4 at the 10:45 a.m. service as part of our corporate worship. While the incense burned is hypoallergenic and mild, parishioners with allergies or respiratory issues are invited to attend the 8:00 a.m. service where incense will not be used.

Volunteers Needed for the St. Peter's Community Garden. The St. Peter's Community Garden, which grows food for Friendship Trays (Charlotte's "Meals on Wheels" program) is undergoing a change in leadership. Now, more than ever, volunteer support is needed as the garden goes through this transition. Without additional volunteers the garden will grow no food this summer. V olunteers are needed for the following tasks: preparing soil and seed flats Friday, May 26 starting at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday, May 27 starting at 10:00 a.m.; growing flats of seedlings at home from May 31 to June 7; planting on Thursday, June 8 starting at 9:00 a.m.; joining the summer gardening team so that there are enough people to tend the garden two days a week with at least two people working each day. The St. Peter's Community Garden is located in Uptown on the campus of Trinity Episcopal School. Please contact Nancy Duncan ( innercitygardens4@gmail.com ) by noon on Friday, May 26 if you will join the team. To learn more about this outreach ministry, please click the link here.

Pub Theology, Thursday, June 1.  Join parish clergy and friends for a relaxed time of holy conversation beyond the walls of St. Peter's. On Thursday, June 1, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, the topic is "Exploring the Holy Spirit: A Closer Look at Pentecost" with the Reverend Jacob Pierce, Associate Rector. This casual, drop-in gathering is for you and a guest.

Social Justice Committee Film Night Wednesday, May 31, 6:30 p.m. At the last Social Justice Leadership Team meeting, we heard a presentation on the "A Tu Lado" ("At your Side") program, which provides support for people in the Charlotte area who are seeking asylum in the United States. At the meeting, we discussed ways to get more people in our parish community involved in this effort. One way that was suggested was to use our movie night to show a film that would explore the plight of this population and spark a discussion in our community. We decided to show the film "The Visitor," which takes place in post 9/11 New York. You can view a trailer for the film here.  We will be starting the movie at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 in the youth lounge area in the basement of St Peter's. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a brown bag dinner. For more information, contact Paula Savich ( paula.savich@gmail.com ).

Special Kanuga Events at the June 4 Parish Picnic
Kanuga Breakfast at St. Peter's - June 18

Update on the "Pie in the Sky" ContestSeveral staff and lay leaders have agreed to participate by having pies put to their faces (in order of money raised): Lyn Holt, Youth Director, is holding her strong lead, but the rest of the leader board has shifted. Currently Jacob Pierce, Associate Rector, is in second place over Ben Outen, Director of Music and Organist, and Bert Miano, Senior Warden. So far, contributions have raised $300 toward Kanuga scholarships. Each leader will have a bucket in the Parish House lobby for the remainder of May to receive donations; the person with the highest amount of money will be granted a pardon and excluded from the humiliation. As for the others, at the parish picnic you can pay $5 to join the fun and pie the participant of your choice!
