See you downtown this summer!
The City of Eugene comes together as summer nears
In response to all of the outreach and advocacy efforts, the City of Eugene has put forth a list of initiatives, programming, and plans.  Allocating a budget of $1 million towards downtown this summer, to help improve the livability and safety of our city's core.  "There's just going to be more and better things happening downtown, reasons for people to come," city spokeswoman Laura Hammond said.

Efforts include a change in police coverage, which now spans 7 days a week, and more coverage during the work day. The department will also be adding the presence of 4 additional Eugene Police Department officers designated to downtown and urban parks.  The Park Blocks now have full time park ambassador, who will also be working an attended portable restroom with working water flow.

Following the recommendations and models of Project for Public Spaces, programming will be in full force this summer including everything from chess in Broadway Plaza, to human foosball in the Park Blocks! The City has also hired 2 full time employees to continually power wash and clean the public spaces downtown.

Downtown and its success has been a long-term priority for both the Chamber and its Stakeholders who are feeling encouraged with these small changes. Through continual support and advocacy, the Chamber is working to move the needle toward an improved downtown that is safe and inviting for all. We look forward to having fun downtown this summer and we hope to see you there!
