Call to artists: Entry plaza water feature (RFQ due June 19)

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an artist or team to create a permanent piece of artwork for the Mary Lyon Elementary School Replacement Project. Pease & Sons of Pierce County chosen to build new school

On June 1, the Tacoma School Board awarded the bid to build the new Mary Lyon Elementary School to Pease & Sons, a Tacoma-area contractor with more than 50 years of construction experience. Pease & Sons submitted the lowest bid for the project with a bid of $23.6 million. Construction is expected to begin in June and reach substantial completion in October 2018.

The new building will be 56,625 square feet with capacity for 450 K-5 students and feature a Puget Sound theme. The existing school was originally built in 1925 with 41,017 square feet on just under 3 acres.

This project is one of 14 modernization and replacement projects funded by the $500 million capital construction bond voters passed in 2013.
