DIGITAL CHINA LEAPS AHEAD WITH
INNOVATIONS THAT ROCK THE WORLD
China is continuing to leap ahead with innovations that will rock the world. From the mobile Internet, to online entertainment to on-demand cars and bikes, to mobile payment to e-commerce, China is setting world standards.
What jumps out the most from the latest Mary Meeker Internet report is China's advancements in on-demand transportation - a market that has developed practically overnight and has doubled since last July. With 20 million already into bike sharing, China alone accounts for more than three-quarters share of the world's market.
E-commerce is another sector where China is leading the trends. Some 15% of retail sales were made online in China last year. Only Korea recorded a higher percentage (18%). The U.S., by comparison, stood at 11%. Read

GSR Ventures is set to acquire Nissan's car battery business for $1 billion. Led by veteran investor
Sonny Wu, GSR has the backing of the Hubei provincial government. Count on GSR, one of the earliest VCs in China, to do things a little differently.
Sequoia Capital
has raised a massive $2 billion across U.S., China and India funds and another $2 billion for its second global growth fund, an increase from the preceding $700 million in late 2012. In this venture grab, Sequoia Capital India has topped off a 4th fund with $125 million.
Plug and Play plans to open its first startup accelerator this fall in Tokyo with large Japanese bank Mitsubishi. It aims to bridge the gap between Silicon Valley culture and Japanese industry - and expand its own footprint beyond 10 countries. Phillip Vincent will head up the new accelerator.
