Maine Fare

Formerly a food festival that drew thousands of local food lovers to Belfast, Maine Farmland Trust has re-imagined Maine Fare for 2017. Rather than a two-day festival, organizers have planned in-depth, hands-on events throughout the month of June on various topics central to Maine's food landscape and culture, culminating in a unique dinner celebrating Maine's bounty and traditional foodways on June 25. MFT members receive a 10% discount on tickets.

June 18: Farmstead Cheesemaking with Jessie Dowling of Fuzzy Udder Creamery in Whitefield
June 24: Harvesting the River with Dana Morse of Maine Sea Grant, Damariscotta River Association, Mook Sea Farm + others on the Damariscotta River

Enjoy a healthy lawn this summer

A healthy lawn means more than just a thick carpet of green grass. Organic lawn care techniques can help keep your lawn growing well without the use of chemicals. Or, consider some "rewilding" practices that invite native species and pollinating flowers into your yard-scape. Either way, you can have a self-sustaining yard you love and that loves you back, all summer long.
Fun with the kids

running-backpack-children.jpg
School vacation time is almost here! It's a good time to pull out your SunriseGuide and start making some plans to have a fun-filled summer with your kids-and save big while you're at it. First, get them geared up for action at Sweet Repeats Children's Consignment and Lots for Tots. Then, get busy! Waynflete Flyers Camp and The Theater Project both offer engaging day camps while you're off at work; spend some quality time and bring them to Greenlight Studio or the Children's Museum; or make a pizza date at OTTO, Leonardo's or Bonobo. Enjoy!

"Power of Place" at Wells Reserve

Sentinel III by Gary Haven Smith
A rabbit in the garden, an angel in a tree, and a stone spire piercing the sky are among the eye-catching sculptures on display now through mid-October at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. The outdoor exhibition titled Power of Place features more than 40 sculptures by 28 New England artists. Acclaimed Maine art curator June LaCombe installed the show, positioning pieces across the historic campus and along the reserve's most popular walking trail.

An opening reception is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 7, alongside the Kennebunkport Festival. The sculpture show is part of the Wells Reserve's Summer of Art & Science. June LaCombe is also hosting a series of Art and Sustainability talks at Hawk Ridge Farm in Pownal throughout the summer. Check out our events section below for details.
