Open House for Beth Johnson

Beth's early days at the House!

It's with a bittersweet  feeling that we say goodbye to Chief Operations Officer, Beth Johnson. Beth first joined the Ronald McDonald House in 1990 and
has   poured her heart and soul into "keeping families close" for over 27 years. We are grateful for her many years of service and wish her the best of luck in this next phase of her life!

Please join us on Wednesday, June 28 from 4-6 p.m. in the House on Limestone St. conference room as we say goodbye and celebrate Beth's many accomplishments at an Open House in her honor.

Lori Ball and Jean Zimpfer Honored with the Lori Kleiman Award at this Year's Volunteer Celebration

Lori Kleiman was one of RMHCCIN's highly valued and very special volunteers dating back to our opening in 1982. She was valued for her dedication to the RMHCCIN mission, her work ethic, generosity with her time and talent, creativity, energy, and most of all, her compassion. Since her passing, RMHCCIN recognizes volunteers that most exemplify her dedication and values with this special award.
Lori Ball and Beth Johnson
Lori Ball has been a Guest Services Volunteer at Limestone since November 2013. Lori subs for other GSVs, comes in early, stays late and eagerly helps lead service projects. She also "adopted" the vacuums providing filter cleaning on a regular basis.  She even notified the vacuum manufacturer when some of them broke and secured free replacements.  Lori is very attentive to houseguests' needs and demonstrates interest and support.
Jean Zimpfer came to the House in December of 2015 where she has served as a Guest Services Volunteer at Limestone ever since. Jean
volunteers for two shifts and consistently helps with preparing meals and many times has cooked meals for the House on short notice.  She has strong connections with the volunteers on her shift and our families.  Her skills, heart, and passion for the House have certainly helped us serve our families in tremendous ways.

Help Wanted

Chief Cheer Officer's Assistant

Mac, our Chief Cheer Officer, is looking for an "assistant" to  introduce him to houseguests and visitors during his office hours at Limestone, Monday through Friday between the hours of 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. As a puppy, Mac still receives training.  His assistant will need to attend a one hour training session to help him follow commands and ensure the experience is positive for both the guests and Mac.

This is an ongoing position so we need Mac's assistants to agree to a regular schedule but not all 5 days each week. Assistants must have a history of dog ownership; previous experience attending obedience training is desired.

11th Annual Heroes for the House

On Saturday, June 17, you can become a Hero for the House!  Volunteer, run, walk, ride or enjoy a nice mommy stroll in this annual 5k event starting at the NCAA Hall of Champions.  This day is a fun way to help raise money and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana.

Yoga Anyone?

We are now offering complimentary yoga classes on the first Monday of each month from 7- 8 p.m.  House guests, volunteers and staff are welcome to join.  The next class will be held June 5 so please join us! Thank you Kelly Alford from The Yoga Studio for your generous donation.

Mission Moment

A recent guest wrote on their exit survey - "The staff, stay and accommodations were impeccable.  We plan to give back generously in the future."

Paying it Forward

Recently Krystyna Karr was checking out a guest at Limestone who had stayed just one night.   He had followed the checkout procedures and was returning the keys and parking pass when Krystyna mentioned to him that he wouldn't need to worry about the room donation because a third party had anonymously taken care if it.  He looked at her and said, "You can do that?"  It was priceless.  She explained to him that this does happen from time to time.  He then asked if he could do it for another guest and had Krystyna randomly pull a card from the box, taking care of two nights for another guest.  Talk about a nice way to end a visit... a child going home to finish getting better and generously paying it forward.

Operations Update - Limestone
  • Zoo tickets are available for just $6 each in the front office. Limit 6 tickets per room.
  • We now have craft supply kits for families staying at the House that can be used in the game room, play room or dining room. Families may check the kits in and out from the front office. One kit contains items such as crayons, colored pencils, scissors and paint. Please encourage parents to use the painting supplies in the dining room where they won't stain the carpet. The other kit has pre-made art kits.  These may contain small objects so we need to watch the age of child using the kits. Detailed instructions can be found in the front office.

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Patti Cooper recently caught Bryce Nelson, Guest Services Volunteer (GSV) at Limestone, displaying friendliness and compassion.

Patti wrote: "Bryce has gone out of his way to help us translate our signage for our Spanish speaking guests, and has taken on these projects without being asked."

Thank you, Bryce. You are appreciated!

Congratulations Bryce!  Your name was drawn this month in our Red Carpet Award drawing and your Crew Carwash pass is in the mail.
