The NFF announced University of Texas at El Paso play-by-play announcer Jon Teicher as the 2017 recipient of the NFF Chris Schenkel Award. Presented annually since 1996, the award recognizes individuals who have had long, distinguished careers broadcasting college football with direct ties to a specific university. Teicher will be honored Dec. 5 during the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the New York Hilton Midtown.

Teicher will begin his 37th season as the "Voice of the Miners" in 2017, starting his career from the UTEP booth in 1981. A native of Detroit, Mich., and a UCLA graduate, Teicher also serves as UTEP's Assistant Athletics Director for Broadcasting.

NFF to Release 2018 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot June 1
The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame will announce the names on the 2018 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame on June 1.

NFF Board Member, 2013 NFF Leadership Hall of Fame inductee and Dallas Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones  was named  the recipient of the SportsBusiness Journal/Daily Lifetime Achievement Award for 2017. He will be honored May 24 at the Sports Business Awards in New York City.

Jones will also accept Arkansas's Distinguished Citizen Award at the 40th annual Community Service Awards at the Governor's Mansion June 2.

NFF Board Member and U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun received the Sports Lawyers Association's highest honor, the Michael S. Weiner Award of Excellence.

ESPN announced that 2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee and 1997 Campbell Trophy winner Peyton Manning (Tennessee) will host the 2017 ESPYS  July 12 in Los Angeles. The awards show will air live on ABC.

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Kirk Gibson (Michigan State) will be the keynote speaker at a free community event today at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Mich. He will discuss his battle with Parkinson's disease.

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Adrian Peterson (Georgia Southern) was the guest speaker at last week's Hesse K-8 School's eighth grade graduation ceremony in Savannah, Ga.

College Football Hall of Famer Marty Lyons (Alabama) helped raise close to $170,000 for the Marty Lyons Foundation after completing the 40th annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour.

The NFF extends its best wishes on a speedy recovery to College Football Hall of Fame coach Gene Stallings, who suffered a slight stroke last week.

2004 NFF National Scholar-Athlete David Greene (Georgia) shared life lessons while speaking at the Best of Preps banquet last week in Savannah, Ga.

Illinois Athletics Director Josh Whitman, an NFF National Scholar-Athlete for the Fighting Illini in 2000, answered questions for the Chicago Tribune during a break in the two-day Big Ten athletics director joint meetings in Rosemont, Ill.

2014 NFF Gold Medal recipient Dr. Tom Catena, who leaves his post in the Nuba Mountains in Sudan only when necessary, will fly to Armenia in order to attend the Aurora Prize Awards Ceremony in Yerevan May 28. Catena, the lone physician in the area, will have three Armenian doctors fill in for him.

2011 NFF Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award recipient Verne Lundquist, one of the iconic figures in college football broadcasting, will serve as the emcee for the American Athletic Conference Summer Kickoff and Media Days, which begin July 17, in Newport, R.I.

2003 NFF National Scholar-Athlete John Frieser (Colgate), who is now an 8th grade social studies teacher in Endwell, N.Y., is leading a fundraising effort to help Debbie Guerina mother of 2nd grade twins, during her battle with Stage IV Cancer. Click here to donate and learn more.

NFF Southern Idaho Chapter president and Famous Idaho Potato Bowl executive director Kevin McDonald is the new chairman of the Football Bowl Association.

The NFF Touchdown Club of Houston Chapter is hosting two luncheons this week. On May 24, the chapter will host the University of Houston Luncheon featuring new head coach Major Applewhite at the JW Marriott. Then on May 25, the chapter will host the Texas A&M Luncheon with head coach Kevin Sumlin at the Bayou City Event Center.

The NFF Philadelphia Chapter  scholar-athlete banquet will take place May 24 in the  Connelly  Center at  Villanova  University. It will be the last banquet for Andy Talley as the chapter's president after he recently retired as Villanova's head coach.

The NFF State of Maine Chapter will hold its 30th annual scholar-athlete banquet May 24 on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. U.S. Navy Captain Brent Blackmer will receive the chapter's Distinguished American Award. The chapter will honor 20 scholar-athletes with each receiving a $500 grant from the Coach Mac-Huard Fund.

The NFF Sunflower (Kan.) Chapter will host its scholar-athlete banquet May 24 at Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium. Kansas State Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Sean Snyder will be the guest speaker.
