Local Farmers' Markets become one
|
The CDP has a history of developing and delivering programs to fulfill an identified need within the community. Three years ago, we saw an opportunity to provide growers and producers with a place to sell year-round, and for consumers to access local produce and products throughout the winter. Thus the Orleans Winter Farmers' Market was established.
Over its three seasons, the Orleans Winter Farmers
' Market served 58 vendors and generated over $128,500 in sales. Hundreds of consumers purchased produce and locally made products, like
-tomatoes, scallions, leafy greens, potatoes, beef, juices, jams & jellies, soap, eggs, cheese, pasta, honey, bread, chocolate, baked goods, coffee, poultry, and pork.
As the Market established itself, a partnership with the
Orleans Farmers' Market, Inc. was a natural progression. During this recently completed winter season, we co-managed the Market with them. And earlier this month,
we jointly decided they would take on ownership and management of the Winter
Market
.
With their long-standing history in the community, transitioning the Market to them was the next logical step. We're pleased they'll be incorporating the winter market into their fold.

Safe, Stable, & Affordable Housing

Walk with us
For the 12th year in a row, we'll be participating in the Bob Murray Housing With Love Walk. This annual 100.3-mile, seven-day Walk is organized by nine local housing organizations to raise money and awareness for affordable housing and homelessness prevention.
Right now we're building our team and we'd love for you to join us!
We'll be walking the Lower Cape portion of the route, which takes place beginning on Monday, July 10th - Wednesday, July 12th. You can walk for part of a day, an entire day or even all three days.
We're raising money for our Resident Support Services program for the residents of our 73 affordable rental homes. Through this program, residents
receive support with budgeting, financial planning and training in how to be a tenant. They are also connected with local resources as needed, such as childcare, employment, education and health/nutrition benefits assistance.

Strong Local Businesses
When Carol Hayward bought custom embroidery and silk screening business, Talking Threads 15 years ago, according to her, "I had no business background but was a hard worker." Over a decade later that hard work has paid off, and the business piece she has learned.
When Carol purchased the business, it had been operated on a part-time basis for a dozen years. One of the first significant things she did to grow her business was get out and network. The networking began at local Chambers of Commerce and dovetailed into a long-standing membership with a local chapter of Business Networking International or BNI. It is here she established her robust customer base from local businesses, largely in the trades, retail and restaurant.

Online First Time Homebuyer Education

Workshop Sponsor

This Online Homebuyer Education course is for first time buyers who are unable to attend an in-person workshop. The course provides information on budgeting, looking for, selecting, and purchasing a home.
The program consists of self-paced online modules to be completed at home, as well and one in-person group counseling session. Satisfactory completion of both the online modules and the group counseling session are mandatory in order to receive a Certificate of Completion. Group counseling sessions are scheduled as needed and Pre-Registration is required.

Housing Rehabilitation Program
Attention homeowners and landlords! Receive up to $35,000 for critical repairs to your home. Repairs include, but are not limited to roofing, heat, windows, siding, septic, lead paint abatement and energy efficiency upgrades. Get expert assistance on planning the work and work with quality licensed and insured contractors. Funding is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. Opportunities in South Dennis, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown.
