June Pride Festival Update

This year, the historic organizers of the Saturday Pride Festival attempted to shift the date to two weeks earlier to give them a staging area for a Sunday march. We are happy to report that the event organizers are following the City's direction and hosting the Pride Festival on June 24th, the historic day of the festival, with commercial activity. This means the restaurants, retailers and other businesses on Broadway will have access to booth space and/or sidewalk venues!  Broadway Avenue businesses interested in participating in Capitol Hill Pride Festival - Bite of Pride should contact the organizers directly.

We appreciate the City recognizing the concerns of the dozens of brick and mortar Broadway businesses in this decision. It is our understanding that the event organizers are still asking for another event on June 10th which would close Broadway between John and Roy to host a street festival, but this event does not allow any commercial activity. The City has not responded to this request. The Chamber has sent comments that this closure seems unnecessary for the types of activities listed in the permit and would create harm to businesses due to impact on mobility without any opportunity to have sidewalk or outdoor commercial activity.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and we ask you to email [email protected] or call our office at 206.328.6646 if you have any issues or concerns regarding either the proposed June 10th event or the approved June 24th event.
