Summer Reading Without Walls

As you get ready for Summer Reading to begin, give your readers' advisory an extra oomph by checking out Reading Without Walls

Graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang, the fifth U.S. National Ambassador for Children's Literature, has issued children and everyone a challenge - to stretch their reading comfort zone.

You can choose to:
  1. Read a book about a character who doesn't look or act like you.
  2. Read a book about a subject with which you are unfamiliar, or
  3. Read a book in a different format (such as a graphic novel, an audiobook, etc.)
Or do all three! To learn more, visit the Reading Without Walls website.
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt with Beginning Sounds

Here's a unique way to extend your storytime (or do this with a little one at home). Try a beginning sound alphabet scavenger hunt that helps children discern beginning letter sounds and sets them on a path for early literacy.

This  website  has step-by-step instructions for creating your own alphabet scavenger hunt. All you need is floor space, painter's tape, and a bunch of random items.
