MHLS Board Meets
The MHLS Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the Community Room of the Hudson Area Association Library.

  • Thanked Hudson Area Association Library Director, Emily Chameides, for hosting the meeting;
  • Scheduled review of the MHLS' 2016 Audit, performed by Sedore & Company, CPAs, PC, for the July 12th meeting;
  • Approved the adoption of the final draft of Phase II Services Action Plans, created to fulfill the goals of the 2017-2021 MHLS Plan of Service;
  • Reviewed current data on OverDrive Trends, Funding and Operations;
  • Approved the 2017 CBA/CLDA Expenditure Plan as presented by the Central Library;
  • Accepted the 1st Quarter Central Library Plan Report for CBA/CLDA state aid programs;
  • Reviewed the purpose and scope of the MHLS 2017 Weeding Project for member libraries;
  • Endorsed a memo from the MHLS Board to member library Board Presidents requesting support for the MHLS 2017 Weeding Project;
  • Approved two MHLS Financial Accounting Practices, as related to Commissioners Regulations 90.6;
  • Accepted the Bylaws Committee's recommendation to propose no changes to the current MHLS Bylaws;
  • Accepted the Bylaws, Policy & Procedures Committee recommended the System not sign the City of Poughkeepsie's Open Trespass Affidavit for MHLS Market Street property, at this time;
  • Reviewed the revised procedures/timeline for the election of 2018 Board Officers;
  • Reviewed and accepted the MHLS' 2016 Annual Report;
  • Authorized the expenditure of Member Library Capital Funds for the purchase of 10 additional Sierra Licenses; and
  • were presented an overview on Columbia County libraries, including: the geography, demographics, statistical services usage, and review of current and new county-wide  library programming initiatives.

The next MHLS Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 am in the MHLS Auditorium.
MHLS Announcements
MHLS will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29. There will be no MHLS Delivery Services or Tech Support Services.
 
Thomas O'Connell, MHLS Acting Technology Operations Manager , recently presented two sessions at the Innovative Users Group Conference:

Spring Cleaning - Session designed for creating and updating item and/or patron records. Identifying some of the most common errors, how to spot the "quirky" things lurking in your records, and how to clean up records--making sure the correct data is in the correct field.

We've Moved - Based on the MHLS project of moving our server from California to Syracuse, how to prepare and communicate a successful move including a handy checklist. Tips for similar III migrations founded on the MHLS experience.
 
The Lending of Unexpected Things Survey: Does your library lend non-traditional or unexpected things? Museum passes? Gardening tools? We would like to know! Location Change: If you are registered for the June 13th Web Literacy Training that had been scheduled to take place in the MHLS Auditorium please take note that the event has been moved to the Southeastern Conference Room, 21 S. Elting Corners Rd., Highland NY.

More info about the June 13th session: Library staff are key to promoting information literacy as a vital 21st Century skill and helping to develop critical thinkers. In this class, we will discuss key information literacy concepts, share the teaching activities already at play in your library, and create new activities to help reinforce the concepts for your users and patrons. This training will help you meet the growing need of the diverse audience using today's online resources. This class will also introduce Mozilla's Web Literacy Framework, which was designed "To help people become good citizens of the web."
