Celebrate Boston Quiz Night at 
Old South Meeting House June 7th

The Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) is hosting Celebrate Boston, a quiz night with prizes and more, on Wednesday, June 7th.

Author and historian Susan Wilson will challenge your knowledge of Downtown Boston and the people who helped define its character. 

There will be food and drink and prizes provided by Shed's BBQ, Omni Parker House, Stoddard's Fine Food and Ale, Back Deck, Sam Lagrassa's and more.

Broadway Smash 'Wicked' Opening at Boston Opera House June 7th

The award-winning musical "Wicked" is back by popular demand at the Boston Opera House. The show will run for an incredible seven weeks -- from June 7th through July 23rd.

The musical is about two girls in the land of Oz -- and how they became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. Click here for tickets and showtimes.
 
'One Nation, Indeterminable' at 
Modern Theatre June 10th 

"One Nation, Indeterminable" is five new play readings presented by the Poets' Theatre and the Suffolk University Department. This event is at Suffolk's Modern Theatre on Saturday, June 10th.  

The five new play readings will be from distinguished guest playwrights: American Repertory Theatre founder and Artistic Director Emeritus Robert Brustein, National Book Award winner James Carroll, Suffolk Professor of Theatre Wesley Savick, and Suffolk alumni Theo Goodell and Nick Wilson.

The five plays will be read in two sessions at 2 pm and 7 pm. General admission is $5 for each session or call 866-811-4111. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets. 
ArtsEmerson's Black Box Sounds Concert Series June 9th & 10th
 
Local bands are featured at ArtsEmerson's Black Box Sounds Concert Series at the Paramount Center on June 9th and 10th

Four different acts will perform on Friday, June 9th: Marcela Cruz, above; Sam Trump; Sidewalk Chalk; and D.Ruff. Tickets can be purchased here in advance for $12 or $15 the day of the show. Doors open at 7 pm and music starts at 8 pm.

The Shakespearean Jazz Show will perform on Saturday, June 10th. The group "reinvigorates and recontextualizes Shakespearean performance. Experience how the loose, improvisational nature of jazz music can free Shakespearean text, allowing the feeling and intent of the words to be expressed in a completely new way."
 Tickets can be purchased here for $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Doors open at 9 pm and music starts at 9:30 pm.
Irish International Immigrant Center 'Black & Green 2017' Event June 11th 

The Irish International Immigrant Center (One State Street) is hosting its annual Black and Green event on Sunday, June 11th. Gather to celebrate the contributions immigrants have made to American society in business, arts, politics and sports - and celebrate how immigrants have made America great.

This event is at the Great Hall of the Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester. Admission donation is $10, children 12 and under are free. This event is from 2 to 4 pm. RSVP in advance by clicking here.

Boston Unplugged Live Music Benefit at Paramount Center June 17th

The Boston Unplugged Live Music Benefit Series provides a platform to Boston's emerging talent and will be at the Paramount Center on Saturday, June 17th. The goal is "to engage our community to support our all-star charities/organizations." 

DJ Mastermillions will provide a music score and there will be live music by DeBo Ray, Tania DeBarros, pictured above, and Kenny Polo.

This event is from 7 to 11 pm. Tickets can be purchased here in advance for $15 or $20 at the door.
On the Field at Fenway Park Fundraiser for The Genesis Foundation for Children June 30th

The Genesis Foundation for Children (60 Temple Place) is hosting its annual On the Field at Fenway Park fundraiser on June 30th. This is a very unique experience as participants will spend a day on the field at Fenway Park participating in numerous activities.

Participants get to bat from home plate, field balls off the Green Monster, take photos with World Series trophies, learn about the history of Fenway Park and more. Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski will be present. Tickets are likely to sellout soon so get yours today by clicking here
 
Historical Play 'Blood On The Snow' at Old State House 

"Blood On The Snow" is a live, dramatic, face-to-face encounter with one of the formative events of the American Revolution. The performance takes place in the very room where it happened in the Old State House (206 Washington St.).The play runs through August 20th.

The play is about the aftermath of the Boston Massacre, as the town's leaders desperately struggle to prevent more bloodshed. 

Due to the intimate nature of this production, there will be no late seating. Only 50 seats will be available per performance.Click here for tickets and showtimes.

The BID's Fountain Music Series at 133 Federal Street Plaza is back offering live free musical performances on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
 
Rachel Sumner will perform Wednesday, June 7th and Friday, June 9th. Todd Brunel, pictured above, will perform Monday, June 12th.

The BID's successful lunchtime music series outside of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (138 Tremont St.) features solo artists performing on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm

Rachel Sumner will perform Thursday, June 8th and Monday, June 12th. 

Seating is provided, so bring your lunch and have a seat to enjoy the free entertainment.

Bands and  Singers Strolling Streets

The Downtown Boston BID's spring entertainment season features three performance groups who are strolling throughout the Downtown Crossing area.
 
The Downtown Boston Dixieland Band is strolling through the area on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays twice
 daily from noon to 2 pm and again from  4:30 to 6:30 pm

The Downtown Boston Brass Band is strolling through the area on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays twice daily from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

The Downtown Boston Singers, a quartet singing group, is strolling through the area performing on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Freedom Trail Foundation Tour Schedule Expands for Spring Season

The Freedom Trail Foundation's 18th-century costumed guides will be out on the trail in full force this spring, offering more opportunities to bring history to life.  

Walk Into History Tours are daily at 11 am, noon, 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm, leaving from the Boston Common Visitor Information Center. Tours also depart from the ArtsBoston Booth at Faneuil Hall including Walk Into History Tours daily at 10:30 am, and North End Tours daily at 1:30 pm. 

Walk Into History T ours are 90-minute walking tours featuring tales of high treason, mob agitations, revolutionary actions, and partisan fights, walking to 11 of Boston's historic Freedom Trail sites to and from Boston Common and Faneuil Hall.

Freedom Trail Foundation walking tours are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors/students, and $8 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitor Information Center on Boston Common, other area locations and online by clicking here.
'Aviary' Exhibit at 
Lafayette City Center Passageway 

The free art exhibit, "Aviary," is at the Lafayette City Center Passageway and compels passersby to stop, look at the imagery, and not just fly through the hallway.  

The  Lafayette City Center Passageway connects Avenue de Lafayette to Macy's and is  open daily to the public from 10 am to 6 pm .

The exhibit is part of the ongoing photography series at the Passageway by the Griffin Museum of Photography. This exhibit is supported by the Abbey Group, Lafayette City Center and the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District

The Tall Ships are Coming 
June 17th Through June 22nd

Boston is an official port of the trans-Atlantic Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. There will be several days of family-friendly activities, including the Crew & Cadet Street Parade presented by the Downtown Boston BID on June 19th. This year's Tall Ships visit will include the most ships since 2000. 

The festivities kickoff noon on Friday, June 16th with an opening ceremony at the Boston Harbor Hotel Rotunda. The Grand Parade of Sail is on Saturday, June 17th from 9 am through 3 pm as vessels parade in flotillas into Boston Harbor, along the waterfront, turning at Charlestown, before proceeding to their assigned berthing areas. The Boston Fish Pier, World Trade Center, Fan Pier and Charlestown Navy Yard will host festivals and the public can board the ships from June 17th through June 22nd. 

The Crew & Cadet Street Parade presented by Downtown Boston BID is an opportunity to celebrate Sail Boston 2017 and to welcome crew, cadets and guests from around the world. Marching bands and cadets from the visiting ships will parade from Seaport Boulevard to Downtown Crossing. The parade is from noon to 2 pm.

There are a lot of activities, including music, entertainment, food for purchase, a memorial wreath laying, a crew and cadet soccer tournament, a sunset salute and more. Click here for more information about scheduled events.
A Culinary Experience:
Cultivar Now Open in Ames Boston Hotel

Noted chef Mary Dumont's Cultivar restaurant opened at the Ames Boston Hotel (1 Court St.) on June 2nd and foodies are already teeming to get in.

The restaurant is named for the horticultural term for selecting the best attributes of a breeding plant, reported Boston Magazine.
Squid ink messinesi

The menu features seasonal and regional ingredients, including items grown in an on-site hydroponic garden. There is an ever-changing raw bar, house-made pastas and items like snail toast and squid ink messinesi. The drink menu also includes seasonal and fresh produce. Don't forget to leave room for unique desserts like a blood peach bombe with matcha meringue and black sesame ice cream.

The restaurant is sizable, offering seating for 245 people between two dining rooms on two levels, a 12-seat bar and a 55-seat patio.

Dig Inn Opens First Downtown Boston Restaurant with Lines Out the Door
 
Dig Inn (277 Washington St.) opened its first Downtown Boston restaurant on June 1st and quickly a line of customers formed extending out past the door.

Community Meeting About Redesigning Phillips Square June 6th

The Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) is hosting a community meeting to discuss the re-imagining of Phillips Square as a public space for the Chinatown community.

The BPDA would like to hear comments on the draft designs. This meeting is on Tuesday, June 6th from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Josiah Quincy Elementary School (885 Washington St.)Phillips Square includes Harrison Avenue between Beach Street and Essex Street.

If you own a rental property, you must register it with the City each year. You must register your rental property every year. The deadline to register is July 1st.

There are three ways to register: register online by clicking here, download and fill out the registration form and mail or deliver it in person to the Inspectional Services Division
Signup for Free Downtown Boston BID Lunchtime Baggo League 

The Downtown Boston BID's Lunchtime Baggo League kicked off a new season -- and players are still welcome to join. It is free to participate. The league is played at the 125 Summer Street Plaza on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and games only take about 30 minutes.

Take a Book, Leave a Book: 
BID Little Free Library at 
Walgreens Plaza

The Downtown Boston BID's Little Free Library debuted recently outside of Walgreens on Washington Street and is already very popular. Readers are welcome to take a book, and encouraged to leave a book. People are also welcome to donate books by leaving them at the library or contacting Kristen Flanagan at kflanagan@bostonbid.org to organize a pickup in the downtown area.

The BID's Little Free Library is officially registered with the Little Free Library non-profit organization. There are actually more than 50,000 registered little free libraries across the country and world!
 
The BID's Little Free Library is open 10 am to 6 pm daily (closed during inclement weather). 
Vendors Wanted for 2017 
Downtown Boston  Arts & Crafts Market

The Downtown Boston BID is expanding the Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market program for 2017, and is seeking vendors to sell their products. The market is at Readers Park by the Irish Famine Memorial at the corner of Washington and School streets. The market will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays through September 29th. 

All artwork, crafts and food offerings must be original and handmade by you or your studio or enterprise. No mass-produced goods are allowed.

The Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market accepts arts and crafts in the following categories: fiber arts, fine art (painting, photography, sculpture), Christmas ornaments and holiday items, Judaica, blown glass, stained glass, clay/ceramics, metal, wood furniture, clothing and accessories, children's clothing and toys, pet items, jewelry, artisan foods, personal products (soap and fragrances), home decor and more.

Free Guided Runs Through Boston Starting at Hyatt Regency Boston 

The Hyatt Regency Boston (2 Avenue de Lafayette) is offering free guided runs every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6:15 am from its lobby. You do not need to be a guest of the hotel to participate.
Interested runners should meet in the hotel's lobby and check in at the front desk. The route is through and around the Boston Common and is anywhere between three and five miles long. The running leaders will discuss the route and speed with participants to gauge runners' experience levels.

The  Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide clean and hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. Ambassadors create a friendly, welcoming Downtown presence by helping visitors with directions, notifying fire and police personnel of incidents and more.
