Students at Cherry certainly earned the Musketeer Hat for the second year in a row. Vice-Principal Diatta walked several laps with the kids, Coach Djiba sang them songs and Mme Marchand should get a spirit award! Très bien!

MM Dieng drums At Oak: Oak Campus students logged a grand total of 891 miles (not including their walk to and from the park). Head of School Mr Mbengue walked with the kids, Mme Charruau showed off her skills running the whole way with her class and Coach Dieng played the drums for the kids- oh la la!

Classes with highest mileage for their grade:
(K's participated for 20 minutes and 1st-8th graders for 30 minutes.)

Cherry classes:
Kindergarten - Israel = 13.8 miles
1st Grade - Cormerais = 47 miles
2nd Grade - Charles = 45 miles
3rd Grade - Sockmack = 51 miles

Oak classes:
4th Grade - Seydi = 42 miles

Click here for class results (Top 3 students per class and class total).

While all of the teachers and classes did a great job, special thanks goes out to our dedicated parent volunteers at both campuses. These activities simply would not happen without you. In addition, our PE teacher at Oak, Mr Dieng and our Athletic Director Mr Djiba were also invaluable the day of the event!

The best part about this fundraiser (besides the money raised) is our students engaging in a healthy activity outdoors and having fun doing it!

Strangling Meal Debtmealdebt2

Debt Académie Lafayette started the new year with more than $50,000 in unpaid lunch and breakfast bills. This strangling debt grew each week. To help remind parents of their bills the school began making regular phone calls to update parents. This has helped but we still have more than $43,000 in unpaid bills.

We know it's easy to forget and we also know that some students eat meals but do not tell their parents. However, because of the finger-scanning system we are able to accurately track student meal consumption.

Remember: Meal bills do not go away at the end of the school year; some of these bills are several years old.

Here's how you can help:
1. Contact Peggy Arians ( parians@academielafayette.org) if you have questions about your meal bill. We are happy to work out a payment schedule that works with your budget.
2. Log on to your child's eSchoolCore account any time and check account balances, as well as grades, attendance, comments from teachers, etc. If you are having issues logging in to your child's eSchoolCore account, please contact Mr. Edem Addoh,  eaddoh@academielafayette.org.

Hello AL Families,

I tidied up both Cherry and Oak Uniform Closet's this week and took stock. As a reminder, the uniform closet is available to all AL families. Before shopping for next fall's khaki items, you might want to check out the Oak closet. We have dozens of size 10,12,14 and 16 items. Also, there are plenty of shirts at both Cherry and Oak. The Cherry closet is always unlocked but you need to stop at the front desk first to get a visitor's pass first. The Oak closet is locked but the front desk has the key.

In addition, the lost and found bins are overflowing. The Cherry bin is outside the auditorium and the Oak bins are outside the uniform closet on the first floor.

If you have any questions or are looking for something specific, email me at diane.rizzo@yahoo.com. Thanks to all those who donate. Have a great summer!

Attention Incoming 8th Grade Familiesshotscook

The state of Missouri requires all new 8th graders to have proof of immunization for both the TDaP and the Meningococcal vaccinations  prior to beginning their 8th grade year. If you did not upload your child's immunization record to the School Mint system when you completed your re-enrollment packets, please send the immunization record to Alexis Cook, acook@academielafayette.org.
All immunization record must be dated after March 6, 2017 to provide the most up-to-date information.

Most students get these immunizations around age 11-12; please check with your child's physician to make sure they are up-to-date prior to sending in a new immunization record.

These immunizations are required to be on file with in the nurse's office prior to students beginning their 8 th grade year or attending summer school.

Medication Pick-Upmedication

As the school year comes to a close, please remember to pick up your student's medications from the nurse's office! Any medications left in the nurse's cabinet after  June 2 will be disposed of.

We clear out our medication cabinets between the last day of school and the first day of summer school as a safety measure to make sure that the medications we have on hand are not expired and all have the appropriate documentation on file with the nurse.

Please make sure that you have updated documentation ready prior to summer school for any medication your student will be taking at school.  If your student needs medication on hand for asthma or an allergy, please have your physician fill out an ACTION PLAN for those conditions. These are available on the AL web page in the Notes from the Nurses under the Parents tab.

All paperwork and new medications should be submitted to the nurse as soon as they are ready; we will store these separately in preparation for the summer and the 2017-2018 school year.

Thank you!

AL Recipe Bookrecipebook

Dear  Families,

A month or two ago I became irritated with my lack of new recipes for my family and took to Facebook to see if anyone had some good dinner ideas they were willing to share with me. That quickly morphed into an idea that it might be fun to develop a new PTSO fundraising project, an Académie Lafayette cookbook. I floated the idea to a few friends who are willing to help take on the challenge, but we need your recipe submissions to make this a success!

We are looking for recipes for all types of cuisine, cooking styles, dietary restrictions, and skill levels; our goal is for this to be a reflection of the diversity of the Académie Lafayette community.

If you are willing to share a recipe with us, please include the following information:
  1. A little bit about yourself ("John Doe, parent of Jack (4th grade) and Jill (1st Grade)")
  2. A small blurb about the preparation or the dish itself (for example: "This is our go-to evening meal when we have soccer practice; it's fast and the kids love it." "Leftovers for this dish reheat really well, just pop it in the oven at 350º for 15 minutes")
  3. An estimate of the "skill level" of the dish
  4. Any recommendations you might have for the dish ("Sometimes we like to substitute cranberries in place of raisins")
In an effort to keep every edition unique with minimal duplicate entries, we may not be able to include every submission in this year's edition but we will hold on to these recipes for possible inclusion in future editions of the book! You will be notified by email if your recipe is selected.

Please send your entries to either/or Anne Clark,  clarkworkscustom@gmail.com, or Alexis Cook,  arkjapapa@gmail.com
