It has been an eventful few weeks at the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT). On May 17th we hosted our first ever Think Local Food Showcase in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting. This fantastic event highlighted our successes over the past 12 months and took a look at what is to come for this organization moving forward. The Dufferin Young Professionals Committee hosted their first event of the year which saw the young professional community gather to network, connect, and learn! Our ever active Dufferin Women In Business committee hosted their
Decompressing the Sandwich Generation
event to great acclaim.
Of course, with all the positive happenings around the DBOT office, there is always the tough issues that arise. On the heels of the Provincial Government announcing their sweeping employment and labour reforms, the Dufferin Board of Trade took action to ensure the voice of the business community in Dufferin did not go unheard. We have been vocal opponents of many of these reforms, from the time that they were only speculations, to the present reality now that the reforms have been officially announced.
We must work cooperatively with government to identify the scale of the economic impact of these changes and
help employers transition into any new policy regime
. We will continue to be cooperative partners with government and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Keep Ontario Working Coalition to find solutions that will, where possible, inhibit negative impacts on the growth of Ontario's economy, our people, and our communities.
