This substantial oil on canvas has been attributed to a follower of Francesco Solimena (1657-1747). Solimena was born in Canale di Serino, near Avellino. He modeled his art after the Roman Baroque masters, Luca Giordano and Giovanni Lanfranco, and Mattia Preti, whose technique of warm brownish shadowing Solimena emulated. The work measures 32.5" by 42" with recent professional framing in an ebonized deep cove frame with a gilt liner. The canvas has been relined, cleaned, and restored. An early work ready to display and enjoy. Offered here at $1975.
