 We're kicking off summer at WOPL with two awesome parties! Don't miss our kickoff events at the end of June for families and teens!






Most of our programs have a suggested or required registration associated with them.Click on the title of the event you are interested in below to learn more or register. Registration for library programs can also be done via the library calendar accessible through www.wopl.org  or by calling the library at 973.736.0198. 

 
June Programs for Children

June is an exciting month at the library! We're busy gearing up for summer reading and bringing your some great events throughout the month. Don't forget to register your child for summer reading too!
 

  Every Kid in a Park :   Listen to Rangers from the Thomas National Park talk ab out our national parks on Friday June 23rd at 4pm! The prog ram is open to all ages .
 
Children who are in 4th grade (including home-schooled) can also  download an Every Kid  in the Park "4th Grade Pass."  The pass admits the student and up to 3 adults to any national park for free until August 17, 2017. For more information visit w ww.everykidinapark.gov

Downtime with Disney:  Join us for a screening of the new live action Beauty and the Beast movie starring Emma Watson on Saturday June 17 at 2pm!  Attendees will receive activity packets while supplies last. Beauty and the Beast dress-up encouraged.  (Rated PG)

Toddler Pajama Storytime:  Family Link, REIC shares a pajama storytime at the library for children ages 2-5 on 
Tuesday, June 20th from 
10:30am-11:00am. 
Children of all abilities are encouraged to attend. Children age 2-5 will also receive a goodie bag and a limited supply of pajamas are available for registered children only.


The Land Before Time: Field Station Dinosaurs visits with the Dinosaur Troubadour and the mighty T-Rex on Thursday June 22nd at 4:30pm!  Meet a life-like, roaring 15-foot T-Rex at this interactive Paleozoic adventure. (Grades Pre-K to 5)  



Summer Reading Family Kickoff Event: Dance the hours away at the library with your family and friends on Monday June 26 from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  DJ, games, and a Lego challenge by Bricks for Kidz!

Chess Club: West Orange Public Library's Chess Club hosted by Eric Greenebaum returns this May! Thursdays June 1-June 22, 4pm to 5pm.

Lego Club : Children build and create with legos! Plus Duplo blocks for little ones.  Tuesday June 6, 4pm-5pm.

June Programs for All Ages
Crochet Club:   
Friday June 9th and June 30th, 2pm-4pm

Bridge the generations at our crochet club! The club's main focus will be on crocheting hats for newborns to be collected and donated at the end of August to the Saint Barnabas NICU. All Ages and skill levels welcome - children, teens, adults!

We will have a limited supply of crotchet needles and yarn. If you have your own, please bring them to the club.  As we move forward with the club, please be sure to bring your materials and work to each meeting. Also, if you are more of knitter, please join us to knit during the club as well!

Teen Advisory Group Meeting: Wednesday June 7, 7pm-8:30pm (Grades 10+)
 
Creative Writing Club: Wednesday June 14, 7pm-8:15pm (Grades 6-12)
 
Game Night:  Wednesday June 21, 7pm-8:30pm (Grades 6-12)
 
Teen Kickoff Dance Party!: Wednesday  June 28, 6:30pm-8:30pm. Who said libraries are only for studying? Get excited for our summer of teen programming at our teen-only DJ dance party (open to grades 6-12). Snacks provided by Whole Foods and free comics courtesy of East Side Mags while supplies last!
 
Dungeons and Dragons: Wednesdays from 4pm-6:30pm, Space is Limited, Registration Required (Grades 10+)

Sign up to be a Reading Buddy! Encourage children who are learning to read by reading a book out loud together. Program runs 3pm-4pm on Mondays July 10-August 14. 

Storytime Volunteer! Do you like reading stories to children? Do you think you might want to be a teacher or even a children's librarian one day? Then sign up to be a storytime volunteer this summer!  Program runs Saturdays at 11am from July 15-August 19. (Ages 16+)

Library Assistant and Program Helper:  Help us in the Children's Room and/or getting prepped for and running our summer programs.  Flexible schedules available. (Ages 16+)

Review New YA books!  Are you in grades 6-12? Do you love to read YA books? Do you want to share your opinion about what you read? Then become a book reviewer for the library! Facebook Photo Albums for Seniors:  Friday June 16, 11am-12:30pm
This class will serve as an introduction on how to create and post pictures and photo albums on Facebook. Please bring your own device with the Facebook app installed and make sure you are signed in using your Facebook login and password.  Space is limited-please register to secure a spot in this class.
 
Friday June 16, 2pm-5pm. Stop by the library for a screening of
Hidden Figures starring Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae.
