We Celebrate the Day of Pentecost this Sunday
In This Issue

The Day of Pentecost, one of the seven major holy days of the year, is the fiftieth day of Easter and brings to a close our celebration of the Easter Season. Pentecost celebrates the outpouring of God's Spirit on the early Christian believers. Since Pentecost is not just a commemorative feast but a celebration of our own empowerment in the Holy Spirit, it has become our custom for everyone to wear something red to church on this occasion. Come expecting a joyous day of celebration.
Annual Parish Picnic
Sunday, June 4, following the 11 AM service

Wear Red and join us for the Annual Parish Picnic on Pentecost Sunday following the 11:00 AM service in the River Room.

Bring a covered dish to share to the River Room kitchen.  Be sure to place your name on your serving piece and make arrangements to pick it up following the picnic.

We need 4-5 more people for set-up & clean up.   Email Anita Tanner , Hospitality Chair, or call  (706) 993-5720 to sign up.
Music Library Dedication Last Sunday
This past Sunday in the Choir Room new cabinetry for the Saint Paul's music library was dedicated in memory of Clay ("Bones") Coleman. The new cabinets were built by Augusta Sash & Door and were made possible by memorial gifts in memory of Clay, who was a devoted member of the choir. A plaque has been placed in the Choir Room commemorating the gift. The church's music library contains more than 100,000 copies of anthems and is valued at $250,000. This is a treasure that makes possible the wide variety of music sung in our services. At Sunday's observance for Clay Keith Shafer spoke about his service to the parish and George Muir led prayers. The parish is invited to see the new cabinets in the Choir Room which is located above the Chapel in the Parish House.

Summer Formation

A History of Christianity (video & conversation) Clergy led.
June 4 - August 13,
9:30-10:30 AM
Berlin Room,

Until our fall formation programs for children, youth, and adults begin on August 20th, we are offering a video and discussion series about the surprising history of our faith. Drop in ANY Sunday, 9:30-10:30 am, in the Berlin Room; you won't be disappointed. Each Sunday we will watch a 30-minute installment of Diarmaid MacCulloch's brilliant BBC documentary followed by clergy-led conversation.

"A History Of Christianity is intelligent, thought-provoking and magisterial in its scope. The series uncovers how a small Jewish sect that preached humility became the biggest religion in the world. Most Christian histories start with St Paul's mission to Rome, but Diarmaid MacCulloch argues that the first Christianity stayed much closer to its Middle-Eastern roots. He describes not only the main ideas and personalities of Christian history but how it has changed politics, sex, and human society. The series includes subjects from Palestine in the first century to India in the third, from Damascus to China in the seventh century and from San Francisco to Korea in the twentieth. He shows how, after a semblance of unity in its earliest centuries, the Christian church divided during the next 1400 years into three increasingly distanced parts, of which the western Church was by no means always the most important..."
