City retains its superior bond rating from Moody's Investor Service
On May 1, 2017, the City of Sheboygan received good news of its superior bond rating from Moody's Investor Service. The bond rating of Aa2 is a reaffirmation of its previous year's rating. The bond rating was critical to the city as it marketed the sale of $5 million in new municipal debt. As a result, the city received significant interest from investors: 10 bids, for the $5 million Obligation Promissory Notes. The winning bid by UMB Bank, Kansas City, MO, resulted in a net interest rate of 2.067 percent.   Read more here
What you get for your City of Sheboygan tax dollars
Where do my City tax dollars go?

More than a third of your total property tax payment (38%) is used to pay for City of Sheboygan-provided services. Budgets of other taxing jurisdictions, including Sheboygan County, Sheboygan Area School District, Kohler School District, Lakeshore Technical College and the State of Wisconsin also impact your taxes. Costs shows are based on an assessed home value of $108,700. This home would pay $1,038 for City of Sheboygan services. Figures are based on the 2017 adopted City of Sheboygan budget and the portion of the budget supported by property taxes net of other sources of revenue.

Dealing with suspected drug houses
by Captain Kurt Brasser/Sheboygan Police Department
I recently received a request from one of our organized neighborhood associations, North Flats, for some tips on dealing with a suspected drug house in the neighborhood. Suspected drug houses and their associated crime frustrate residents striving to make their neighborhoods a vibrant place to live and work. If you suspect drug activity at a house in your neighborhood, police need your assistance to take care of the problem. Here are some signs to watch for:       Read more here

Don't get burned with a fine. Be aware of fire ring regulations along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, Sheboygan Police Department officers had many contacts with individuals who were in violation of the city ordinance regarding fires on the beach. The City of Sheboygan provides four recreational fire rings along the shoreline of Lake Michigan for public use. They are located north of Deland Beach, near North Point Park. Any other fire on the beach is prohibited. For more information on shoreline recreational fire regulations, see attached document.  Shoreline Recreational Fire Rings
Wisconsin Child Sex Trafficking and Exploitation
by Detective Tamara Remington, Sheboygan Police Department

As the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families has documented, Human Trafficking is the misuse of other people often in the forms of sexual exploitation or forced labor. Trafficking can occur at any age and traffickers often recruit people who are vulnerable with deception or with force. Traffickers may exploit people through fraud, abuse of power, control, violence, physical abduction or by threatening a victim or their family.

Trafficking of children and youth is a growing concern across the nation and right here in Wisconsin, and Anti-Human Trafficking work groups formed last year under the direction of the Wisconsin State Human Trafficking Task Force and Coordinator to develop critical details of Wisconsin's approach to addressing sex trafficking of youth.

Sheboygan and Esslingen celebrate 50 years of partnership
On Friday, May 19, 2017 the City of Sheboygan and Esslingen celebrated the 50th Anniversary as Sister Cities at a banquet in Esslingen, Germany. A delegation of 34 persons traveled to Germany with Fire Chief Mike Romas and myself to participate in this event. Included in this delegation are members of the Mayors International Committee, People to People and residents of the Sheboygan area.

A recent publication to commemorate the anniversary was organized by Geri Schwoerer of the Mayors International Committee with the assistance of the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center noted the beginnings of this partnership. The sister city relationship between Sheboygan and Esslingen began as a result of friendship which was developed many years ago between Colonel Saunders who was stationed at the army base near Esslingen during World War II, and and Dr. Hans Rues, a prisoner of war at that base. When Colonel Saunders mentioned to Dr. Rues that they needed more housing for the American soldiers, Dr. Rues said "My men are so homesick for their families. If they could go home for two weeks, I know that we could easily find housing for your men."
