APSA invites PhD candidates to apply to participate in dissertation workshops on Wednesday, August 30 in San Francisco, in advance of the 2017 Annual Meeting. Two workshops are offered, one on Comparative Political Theory and one on US Congressional Politics.

Advanced graduate students and junior faculty are invited to apply to take part in a teaching-oriented workshop which will take place on Wednesday, August 30 in San Francisco in advance of the 2017 Annual Meeting. Keep an eye on your inbox for info on upgrades coming to APSA Connect. We're working to make it easier for members to participate in discussion forums with the ability to reply directly from their preferred e-mail inbox. A revamped document library and member directory will make it easier for members to find the documents and connections they need. Sections will be able to host their own publicly accessible websites on the popular WordPress platform, currently running 27% of the web. The primary goal of the Fund for Latino Scholarship is to encourage and support the recruitment, retention, promotion, and professional development
--- including travel to professional conferences
--- of Latina/o political scientists (especially students and tenure track junior faculty). The secondary goal is to support research on Latino politics in the United States (especially students and tenure track junior faculty).

It also includes initiatives that political scientists and departments are engaged in to increase and advance diversity and inclusion in the pipeline and throughout the profession. The MSRP connects undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in or show potential for graduate study with graduate programs interested in recruiting diverse cohorts of doctoral students.

FY17 Omnibus Appropriations Bill Signed into Law
On May 5, 2017, President Donald Trump signed into law the omnibus appropriations package for the remainder of the 2017 fiscal year. The legislation,
H.R. 244, provides small increases for the National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities and flat funding for international education and foreign language programs. The bill funds the NSF at $7.5 billion, an increase of $8.7 million over the FY16 enacted amount. The National Endowment for the Humanities received a smaller increase of nearly $2 million, to bring the total budget to approximately $150 million. Notably, the compromise legislation includes flat funding for international education and foreign language programs at the Department of Education. The FY17 budget request and the original Senate legislation proposed a significant cut to the Fulbright-Hays program.
