St. Michael's Academy
  :

Well, we've gone from 40 degrees to 90 degrees in a matter of days. Hopefully the 90's don't continue but it is certainly nice to welcome the warmer weather.

It was a great week at St. Michael's Academy. Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders went on a field trip to Symphony Hall to see a production of Charlotte's Web. A generous donor sponsored the Boston Science Museum and our students enjoyed great assemblies. Our 7th graders participated in a New Spirit retreat and the whole school participated in our annual "Evening of Art and Music."  I cannot say enough about the wonderful job all the students did on making that evening happen!  What a treat to share all their hard work, creativity and talent with friends and family.

It's hard to believe that there are less than five weeks of school left! Please encourage your child to "hang in there" as we still have materials and lessons to cover.  This is always a hard time of the year to keep the students focused.

Enjoy a great weekend and we will see everyone on Monday.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Tuition Assistance

Attention All Families

In order for families to receive tuition assistance, they must complete a tuition assistance application EVERY year. Even if you received assistance last year, you still need to complete the application this year.

If you are denied assistance but believe you have certain circumstances that necessitate help, please complete an appeals form and submit it to the school.  All requests are considered, so please do not hesitate to apply.

Attendance Winners

Good Attendance Pays Off !

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.   Congrats to this week's winners!

PEEP!  PEEP!

What's inside that egg?  The children of Kindergarten-B are anxiously waiting to see!  On April 26th, twenty four eggs were placed in our incubator.  The temperature in the incubator is a comfy 100 degrees.  Water rings on the bottom of the incubator keep the humidity level at 30 percent.  Hopefully favorable conditions for a successful hatching.

Chickens are farm birds that cannot fly.  The adult female chicken is called a hen, the adult male is called a rooster, and the young are called chicks.  A group of chickens is called a flock. There are many different sizes and colors of chickens.  The most common chicken in our area is called the Rhode Island Red.

This life cycle project takes twenty one days and many prayers.  So far we have 8 chicks that have hatched so our prayers have paid off!  It is very exciting to witness this miracle of birth happen right in our classroom.  We will keep you posted!

Boston Science Museum

Science Museum Comes To St. Michael's!

What a great time the students had l earning while attending the Boston Science Museum assemblies!  The annual visit from the museum, sponsored by a generous donor,  is always a highlight of the school year.

Art and Music

The Evening of Art and Music

What a fantastic job the students did last night at the " Evening of Art and Music."  Holy Cross Church was alive with the sound of music as students performed various musical numbers. We have some very talented students here at St. Michael's Academy!

And if that wasn't enough, participants were then treated to an art exhibition featuring a project from every student at St. Michael's Academy!  The exhibits ranged from stand-up sculptures, to totem poles, to personalized masks to clay pinch pots.  Artwork featured the student's impression of themselves as cartoon characters, water color paintings, mosaics and much, much more!

Grade 7 Retreat

New Spirit Comes to Grade 7

It is always a positive experience when our students take part in a New Spirit Retreat.  Our 7th graders had the opportunity to participate this week and feedback, as always, was positive.  The day provides a wonderful opportunity for students to look at themselves and each other in a different light and allows them to take a break and pause to reflect on life in general.

Volleyball Game

The Faculty Rules!

You could feel the tension in the air. It was time....time for a winner to emerge...time for the annual 8th grade versus faculty volleyball game! If you remember last year, it was the first time that the 8th grade had taken the title. So....everyone was gathered around the volleyball court, ready to watch the action.  The volleyball was served and the action began.

Game 1 = faculty wins!
Game 2 = faculty wins!
Game 3 = THE FACULTY WINS!!!

And so a new winner was crowned...THE FACULTY regained the title! OK 7th grade students - start practicing for next year!

Field Trip News

Charlotte's Web at Symphony Hall

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders had a great trip to Springfield Symphony  Hall this week to see a live production of Charlotte's Web. Miss Collin's 1st graders were watching the movie as well so they could compare the movie to the live version!

Lost and Found

Lost and Found Bin

Has your child not come home with the articles of clothing you sent them to school with?  Did you check the backpack thinking a jacket or sweater would be in there only to find nothing was there?

It's time to check the Lost and Found Bin located on the right before you enter the cafeteria.  It is overflowing with items!

And while we are thinking about it...please remember to write your child's name in all of their belongings.  The Lost and Found Bin thanks you!

Carnival

The SMA Carnival Is Coming
