The Alamo Colleges District Thanks Voters for Approving our $450 Million 2017 Bond Issue
Voters approved the Alamo Colleges District's 2017 General Obligation bond issue which will benefit all five district colleges.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Alamo Colleges District family, the Alamo Colleges District wishes to thank the voters for approving our 2017 bond issue. Over the past ten years, we have seen amazing improvement in student success and organizational excellence, with a record 12,000 degrees and certificates awarded in 2016.
The result of the bond election is a reflection of the trust you have shown us, the benefits we provide to the community and the hope we represent for future generations. We are excited and thankful for the confidence placed in us to improve our infrastructure so that we may increase our ability to empower our diverse and growing communities for success.
We thank the entire community for sharing our vision of becoming the best community college district in the nation.
Alamo Colleges District - San Antonio College Motorsport Team Earns Third in International Event
The SAC Motorsport Team won third place in an international competition to design an energy efficient vehicle.
The San Antonio College (SAC) Motorsport Team, comprised of students majoring in science and engineering fields, was awarded third place honors at the 11th Annual Shell Eco-marathon Americas challenge, an international energy efficiency driving competition. The SAC team won in the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Cell category.
The Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition, held in Detroit, Mich., drew more than 135 teams from across North and South America. Competitors in the contest were split into two categories: * Prototype classes - vehicles focusing on emerging technology * UrbanConcept classes - fuel efficient vehicles meeting the needs of today's drivers.
The SAC Motorsport Team's entry was able to travel 66 miles per cubic meter of hydrogen, similar to going 829.4 miles per gallon of gasoline. The team received a $1,500 prize for their finish in the competition.

Alamo Colleges District - St. Philip's College Faculty Member Nets Tourism Award
Alamo Colleges District - St. Philip's College (SPC) alumnus and hotel management faculty member David Uminski earned congratulations from the City of San Antonio following the May 3 announcement of his selection as Visit San Antonio's 2017 Certified Tourism Ambassador of the Year award recipient. Visit San Antonio is the official sales and marketing organization that promotes San Antonio as a top leisure and meetings destination. Uminski accepted a certificate of congratulation in honor of his exemplary leadership and service to the local tourism industry during the May 3 City Council meeting.
Uminski is well-known to Visit San Antonio leadership in both the community and on campus as a singer, marathon runner and member of various community association boards and committees. He promoted the Riverwalk and raised funds as two-time Riverwalk Prince of the Fiesta Royal Court for both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
