Fifth and Sixth Grade Make New Friends in Spain

The 5th and 6th grade students have been writing letters to schools in the Southern Almeria region of Spain as a part of Senorita Cueto's Spanish classes. The letter writing helps students practice their Spanish skills. In Spain, students practice their English skills in the return correspondence. The letter exchange began in February and ends in June.
Students exchange details of their lives along with pictures of friends, family, and favorite activities. They love both sending and receiving the letters. It's an excellent opportunity to learn about a different culture and make friends while practicing Spanish.

End of the Year Performing Arts Shows
Next week, our music students will perform their year end concerts. The 5th grade music classes and selected soloists will perform two shows. The first show will be Tuesday, May 16, beginning at 6:00 pm, and the second show will be on Wednesday, May 16, at 9:00 am. The Fairmont Orchestra and The Beat Band will play on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:00 pm and then again the following morning at 9:00 am. Additionally, the Junior High drama class will hold its end of year performance on Thursday, May 18, at 6:30 pm and again on Friday at 9:00 am. All performances will be held in the cafeteria.
Fairmont Prep Academy Hosts Welcome Lunch for Incoming HAC Freshmen
On Tuesday, Fairmont Preparatory Academy welcomed the Class of 2021 with a luncheon in the library. The information session focused on what students need to do in preparation for an awesome high school experience. In addition to hearing from the Prep's Student Services, athletics directors, counselors, and community service coordinator, students received packets with athletic physical forms, the permission slip for the freshman retreat, and travel week information. Below are a few highlights from the event:
- Students and parents should schedule their appointment with their counselor as soon as possible to choose their classes.
- No formal Wednesdays! Student will need new uniforms for the Prep.
- The summer mailer will arrive sometime in July with the school calendar, book and uniform information, and much more!
- Parent Orientation and Freshman Retreat - August 10
- Freshman Student Orientation - August 14
- Travel Week deposits due - September 30

Video Games Live Co-Creator Speaks to Students
Tommy Tallarico, founder and co-creator of Video Games Live, spoke with more than 100 Fairmont Prep students in the International Business Program (IBP) and Visual And Performing Arts (VAPA) department last Friday. He shared his story from growing up in a small town to making millions through his combined passions of music and video games. At the age of 21, he started out as a video game tester and later became a composer and musician with more than 250 video game credits to his name. Video Games Live is an international concert series that showcases music from well-known video games. During his presentation, Tallarico encouraged our students to follow their passion, build relational networks, and say "yes" to opportunities.
