Meetings set to respond to BPES design concerns

Thank you to the community members who reached out regarding updates to the Browns Point Elementary School Replacement Project. Major themes we are hearing include concern about student capacity and future growth, location of the music room and stage, location of special services and communication with the community.

We are listening to your input, and met with TCF Architecture on Thursday to consider solutions to many of your concerns. Regarding capacity and space locations, we are working on a design solution that will maximize the number of classroom spaces. This effort also includes adjustment to the music room and stage space, and locating special services more closely with other support services on the first floor. We are talking with our demographer, and city and county experts, to confirm expectations about future growth and enrollment; meeting with school and community representatives over the coming weeks; and offering the following opportunities to engage.

Small Group Engagement Opportunities
Get a close up look at updated Browns Point Elementary School design plans and talk with Planning & Construction Director Rob Sawatzky about this project, adjustments that have been made to address community concerns and the thinking that went into the design.

Small group sessions are limited to 15 people each. RSVP required. If times fill up, additional opportunities will be scheduled.
Northeast Neighborhood Council
TCF Architecture and TPS Planning and Construction staff will attend the Northeast Neighborhood Council on Thursday, June 15, to give an update on the design, including adjustments after recent feedback, as well as information about the upcoming construction schedule. The Northeast Neighborhood Council meeting is located at the Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave. N.E., Tacoma.
  • 5:30 p.m. - Information booth prior to neighborhood council meeting
  • 6 p.m. - Northeast Neighborhood Council meeting (the BPES design update is one of multiple items on the agenda)
