4th Grade Visits Sacramento
Last Thursday and Friday, our 4th grade students and their parents embarked on their very first Fairmont educational overnight field trip to Sacramento and San Francisco. While in Sacramento, students visited our State Capitol building where they were able to observe the Senate members voting on new bills. Students and parents also attempted to strike it rich by panning for gold along the American River, which is where gold was first discovered in California in 1848. In Old Sacramento, they visited the Railroad Museum where they expanded their knowledge of the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. On Friday, after a hearty breakfast, they walked across the Golden Gate Bridge where they were able to observe a small pod of whales in the bay. Afterwards, they rode a cable car, visited the California Academy of Sciences, and toured the infamous Alcatraz Island. Ms. Lin and both 4th
grade teachers accompanied the students on this trip. This field trip was an excellent way to culminate their
social studies curriculum. A great time was had by all!

Junior High Debaters to Compete in the Southwest Regional Championships
8th graders Rylen P., Ishan P., and Ali A. have been selected to represent Fairmont Anaheim Hills at the May 27 Southwest Regional Championship at Buena Park Junior High. It is a great honor to have a team from our school, as not every school earned a spot.

There are so many great debaters at Anaheim Hills, it was difficult to select only three, but I am confident that Ali, Rylen, and Ishan will make us proud.  We would love to have you
come cheer them on if you are available to attend!

Sincerely,

Flag football is a version of American football where the basic rules of the game are similar to those of the mainstream game, often called "tackle football" for contrast. Instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier, called "deflagging," to end a down. In this camp, the athletes will learn the basic football skills to prepare them for participating on a flag football team. Such skills as throwing, catching, and flag pulling will all be covered, as well as an understanding of how the game works and teaching the basic rules.

Early Childhood Education
Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and JK Summer Camp is Filling Up Fast!

If you are thinking about enrolling your preschool child in summer camp, please do so as soon as possible. Week 8 is already full for PreK, and most other weeks are not far behind.

To learn more about the program and to enroll, please visit www.fairmontsummerprograms.com. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me or stop by.

Here are the answers to some FAQs:

1) Which program is the right one for my child?

Children going into preschool, pre-kindergarten, or JK for the 2017-2018 school year will participate in the preschool/JK program. Children who will be entering kindergarten in 2017-2018 are now part of the elementary summer program - including trips to the pool and weekly field trips! Children entering kindergarten next year are also now age-eligible for workshops, and the 6-week summer school program.

2) Why is my JK child still with preschool and pre-k?

Due to licensing regulations from the Department of Social Services and the educational code of the CA Department of Education, children who are 4 years, 9 months old MUST be enrolled under the supervision and regulation of DSS licensing - which means they must be in the preschool/pre-k setting.

3) I know there is summer camp, but is there summer school for preschool/pre-k/JK?

While Elementary students have summer camp and summer school as separate program options, preschool, pre-k, and JK students experience a blended program that is all the fun of summer camp, with an academic component incorporated into each morning.

4) How will you make sure that the activities are developmentally appropriate, yet challenging for all children?

Teachers are provided a summer curriculum that drives the majority of the activities and lessons. Teachers then use their many resources to scaffold and differentiate lessons to make sure that 2 year olds are engaged in developmentally appropriate ways, while JK students are effectively challenged. Within each of the larger sections of preschool (2 and 3 yr olds) and pre-K/JK, teachers work with children in smaller groups based on age and ability. Each group's level of instruction is designed to reinforce their prior academic experiences and to build on their knowledge in preparation for the upcoming school year.

5) It is summer and they're only in preschool... can't my child just have fun?

Your child will have TONS of fun at Fairmont Summer Programs! Their days will be filled with so many fantastic safari themed activities, thrilling afternoon enrichment classes, exciting special visitors, water play days, and more! Even the academic component of the program each morning is designed to make learning fun, while keeping their young minds engaged through the summer.

As always, I welcome questions and feedback at [email protected]. Give a hug to your little one!

Husky Highlight
Congratulations, Class of 2017!

Congratulations to the Class of 2017! It feels like it was yesterday they walked onto campus as 9th graders. A short four years later and they are ready for the next chapter of their lives. Mr. Dunn said it best on Tuesday, May 23 at the Senior Farewell, "Try new things. Take a class you wouldn't normally take, participate in activities on your college campus, and get to know your professors." We will miss the Class of 2017 but we look forward to seeing them when they visit and hearing about the amazing things they are accomplishing. Go Huskies!
