Performing Arts Takes Center Stage
Last week, our performing arts students kept everyone entertained with a series of performances. First off, our 5th grade instrumental students. They performed several songs on instruments they only began learning at the beginning of the year. The strings played a set with highlights including "Ode to Joy," and "Concert Song." The woodwinds and brass combined to play a lively set that featured the song "Better Than the Rest."

The next day, our Fairmont Beat and All Campus Orchestra had their turn on the stage. The Beat rocked the crowd with popular songs of today and favorites from the past. Crowd favorites included "Hound Dog," and "1,000 Miles." They also dedicated special songs to both Mrs. Kuka and Mrs. Calabria. During the orchestra section of the concert, the theme from "Beauty and the Beast" wowed the audience.

Another of the show's highlights was teachers joining in with The Beat for a rousing rendition of "Y.M.C.A."
Before their traditional closing of "Can Can" they had a video tribute to Mrs. Calabria and then played her the song "My Way." As a final tribute, they let Mrs. Calabria conduct the orchestra as they finished their set.

The week finished with the junior high production of "Hoodie." "Hoodie" portrays students dealing with everyday insecurities that they face as they navigate through the tween years. With only 10 actors, each student-actor had to play multiples roles. The show was well done and all of the actors did a great job.

Husky Highlight
Congratulations, Class of 2017!

Congratulations to the Class of 2017! It feels like it was yesterday they walked onto campus as 9th graders. A short four years later and they are ready for the next chapter of their lives. Mr. Dunn said it best on Tuesday, May 23 at the Senior Farewell, "Try new things. Take a class you wouldn't normally take, participate in activities on your college campus, and get to know your professors." We will miss the Class of 2017 but we look forward to seeing them when they visit and hearing about the amazing things they are accomplishing. Go Huskies!
