MPTC and Manufacturing Jobs
Since the end of the recession, the manufacturing industry has been growing - both in production output and the availability of jobs. But today jobs don't look like they used to; employers are now looking for a "skilled-labor" workforce. In the next decade, the industry will need to fill 3.5 million jobs, but they expect employers will still be missing close to 2 million workers. Jessica Gomez visited training programs in Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan to find out more about collaborative efforts between local colleges and the next generation of manufacturing jobs. Check out this video with Hartford Alum, Jacob Fendt

AP Literature
Mrs. Parker's AP Literature class recently joined Mrs. Fisher's 8th grade Literature class at Central Middle School to discuss the novel Whirligig by Paul Fleischman.  The AP Literature students prepared and led discussions about characterization, character motivation, and themes within the novel.  They also led an oral reading of the next chapter.  At the end of the class period, the 8th grade students were given the opportunity to ask the high school seniors any of the questions about high school.

Physical Education Archery
Our Specialized Physical Education class did participate in Archery this year. Thank you Mr. Dobner and Mr. Duhr for having a friendly competition of students against administrators. Mr. Dobner was the overall point winner, however Mr. Duhr had the highest score in single round (great job throwing it to make Mr. Dobner and the students feel better). Zach Sery had the highest score of the students. Dave Grundy shot a bullseye. Thank you again for having a friendly competition of Archery.

Thank You Hartford Police Department!
Thank you to the Hartford Police Department, especially Officer Fassbender and Officer Dorn for coming into the health classes to educate the students on effects of substances.

District Decision and Appeals Process
Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Community,

The District Administration has developed a District Decision and Appeals Process that we believe will help all of us strengthen our communication, and help students, staff, parents, and community navigate the District's system more easily.  The process was initially developed by your District Leadership Team, and then reviewed and endorsed by the Board of Education.  The District Leadership Team will continue to update the Process periodically.   A few, brief notes about the Process are in order.

  • Attached, you will find the Purposes and Guide for the Process.
  • Next, you will find the District Decision and Appeals Process.  The far left column, Areas, lists the items about which you may need to make a contact.  The remaining columns (Initial Contact, First Level Appeal, etc.) are the people you should contact - in order from left to right - to help you.  Please follow the order given.
  • The last page is the list of Descriptors/Definitions which define the terms used in the Areas (far left) column of the Process.  That should help, too.

Please let us know your thoughts and suggestions about how to improve the Process.  You should communicate with your Principal, Dan Dobner, or you may contact me directly...

Thank you for the support of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Attila J. Weninger, Ph.D., Superintendent

The end of the year is fast approaching and some parents may be starting to think of next year already with sports physicals or other doctor exams over the summer.  If your child has a health condition that the school needs to know about such as asthma, severe allergies, etc., please click on the link and print the form for an Individualized Healthcare Plan and take it with you if you have an upcoming appointment.  Every student who carries an inhaler or an Epi-Pen, needs a Healthcare Plan on file signed by the parents and doctor, these need to be done on a yearly basis.  I have also added links for the prescription medication card for the parents and doctor to sign.  Students can carry over-the-counter medications at school with a signed permission slip from their parents and with the medication in the original packaging (no pills in bags.)  These forms will be collected on the registration days in August or can be mailed or faxed back to my office by the first day of school.  fax  262-673-8943

ATTENTION SENIORS - FINAL TRANSCRIPTS

Seniors will need to request a final transcript from Parchment if they are college-bound.  Most colleges and universities require a final transcript to complete the admission process.
Seniors need to log into their Parchment account to make that request.  Be certain to supply a personal email address (not the HUHS student email).   Request a "final transcript" when submitting the order; transcripts will be available the end of June.

If a Parchment account has not been set up yet, please go to   www.huhs.org, where the link to Parchment is available by clicking on Transcripts.

Any transcript questions can be directed to the Student Services Office.

Some News from Activities & Athletics
Evans Helps Orioles Qualify in Relay and 800
Finishing behind Slinger during the 3,200 relay was rival Hartford Union, which placed third to earn the final qualifying spot.  "They all ran great. They all had PRs for splits," coach Lance Zodrow said. "Before the race, I told them that they had to PR in order to move on. They really excelled. ... For them to PR is a confidence boost. They keep improving and that was great for them."  Rachel Zuern, Cassidy Sheehan, Courtney Kind and Alyx Evans ran a 9:53.94. Needing to move up a few spots during the middle of the race, Kind's leg helped the Orioles get into third.  "Courtney, as the third runner, made up a lot of ground and that made Alyx's job easier," Zodrow said.  Evans added, "Courtney kicked in on her second lap. She did so amazing. She started passing people at her 200 and put me in a good spot. I had to keep up third and fight for it. I wanted it and my team wanted it."

Johnson & Meinerz - On To State!!
Hartford Union's Quinn Meinerz received congratulatory hugs from Orioles head coach Paul Coffin and throws coach Doug Dimmer after his last shot put heave. The senior wanted to end his career as a three-sport state participant, and put everything he had into his final put of the day. When it landed several supporters cheered, and when the distance - 55-1.75 - was read, there were more. Only when Fond du Lac senior Donte Johnson's final put land more than a foot short of Meinerz' mark did the senior break out a smile. "It was the motivation, wanting to achieve my goal of going to state in three different sports as a senior," Meinerz said. "Going up, I was like 'This could be my last throw. I've got to go for it.' "The saying is it only takes one throw. That was my one throw I had to make it count. It was awesome to finish off like that." Dimmer and Meinerz noted the pupil has worked all season on changing from a glide-step to a full rotation into his throws, and part of the transition has been keeping his head in on the follow-through so he doesn't step out of the circle and scratch. It affected him at least twice Thursday, but his form was true on the qualifying throw. "It eased up his body, and from last year to this year it's about an eight foot difference," Dimmer said of the change. "Biggest thing he's been working on is trying to stick his landing. That's the only thing that was holding him back, and he got it."

Kreuser Advances to Sectionals
Hartford Union's Matt Melsheimer grinned.  "All Kevin (Kreuser) does is win matches," the No. 1 doubles said. "That's all he does."  Hartford's No. 4 singles player captured the flight's final advancement placement in Tuesday's Arrowhead subsectional by outlasting West Bend East's Colton Harris, 6-7(5), 6-1, 63, at the Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.  Kreuser (22-3) was the lone Orioles player to move on into Thursday's Waunakee Sectional, and prevented East from attaining five entries into the sectional tournament.  "It feels really good, though I wish more of us were going," Kreuser said. "I'm still happy I'm going.  "I felt (the first set) was really close, and I was actually disappointed when I blew it because I knew I could have won the set."  Harris and Kreuser battled to a 6-6 draw in the first set, and went to a seven point tiebreaker to settle it. Harris won, 7-5, to claim the opener.  Kreuser rebounded to win the first two games of the second and rolled to a 61 second-set win.  He pushed ahead, 2-0, in the third, and stayed up a pair after winning the sixth game (4-2). Harris pulled within 4-3, but like he had in the second set, Kreuser claimed the final two games of the third to win the match.  "I thought I had a lot of momentum because my second set ... I won two games in a row to win it,  which helped," he said. Click here to read the full daily news article.
Boys Golf Regionals
Congratulations Luke Carroll for advancing on to Sectionals

Germantown and host Hartford Union will each have one representative at an upcoming sectional.  Carter Schmidt, for the Warhawks, and Luke Carroll, for the Orioles, both advanced by taking one of the four individual spots during a Division 1 regional  Tuesday  at Hartford Golf Club. Schmidt finished with a 7-over 79. Carroll shot an 81. Germantown was sixth as a team (340) and Hartford tied for seventh (344).

Hartford Upsets Beaver Dam in Softball
Whomever runs the Hartford Union softball Twitter account typed  Tuesday, " Tomorrow a new season starts. Wipe the slate clean. Leave it all on the field. We aren't ready to go home!!"  On Wednesday, the Orioles proved the words correct as the No. 14 seed upset No. 3 seed Beaver Dam, 7-3, in Beaver Dam.  "It was a big, big win,"  coach Tim Kerrigan said. "Big upset."  Elizabeth Groonwald went 3 for 3 with a two-run home run and senior Katelyn Matt was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI as the Orioles (6-17) took down a Golden Beavers team that outscored them 28-3 in two previous Wisconsin Little Ten games.  Olivia Pusch was 2 for 4 as Hartford rapped out 10 hits
Track & Field Regionals

Congratulations to these Track Athletes advancing on to Sectionals

Girls~
The 3,200 relay team for Hartford Union got a boost during its race. The Orioles placed third (10:07.7) to advance.
"They made it through with a big PR," Hartford coach Lance Zodrow said. "That's a confidence boost going into sectionals."  Alyx Evans (800 run) Maya Platt (100 dash) and Mallorie Smits (discus) were the Orioles' other sectional qualifiers.  "We had three girls in the 100 dash finals and one went through. It was nice to see those girls succeed," Zodrow said.

Boys~
Hartford Union's Quinn Meinerz placed second in the shot put (51-1.5) to advance. CJ Chiefe placed second in the 200 to advance, while Jack Johnson placed third in the pole vault to advance. The Orioles' 800 relay also qualified.
