Beautify our Bima for Shavuot!
It's traditional to decorate the synagogue Bima with flowers and plants of the season. This year there are three ways you can help make our Shavuot Bima beautiful:
  1. Show up to help decorate the Bima on Tuesday, May 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  2. Leave flowers you buy or gather from your yard at the synagogue on Tuesday morning, May 30th after 8:00 a.m. There will be a bucket of water outside the synagogue front doors.
  3. Let our helper, Evaristo, come by your yard to clip a few of your overgrown rhododendrons or other flowering bushes. Effortless! Email a reply to events@islandsynagogue.org, mention which bushes/flowers Evaristo can cut, and he'll come by the morning of Tuesday, May 30th and pluck a few.
Questions? Email the Bima Beauty Committee (Diane Medved and Terri Schneeweiss) at  events@islandsynagogue.org.

Help your Synagogue hit the Jackpot to Maximize its Potential
Three months left to the end of the synagogue's fiscal year and the Finance Committee is diligently working on the budget for next year. They would like to incorporate funding for all the events, activities and requests from committees that require funds to carry out their programs.  This they can only do based on sound fiscal policy which is dictated by money coming in from the membership.  For those of you who have not responded to the Dues Committee's request to bring your financial commitment current, we urge you to reconsider or contact the Dues Committee to apprise us of the reason.  Ideally, members should satisfy their commitments by the end of this fiscal year, which is August 31 st .

Respectfully,

Randy Kessler and Ed Epstein

Description
You've read him in footnotes; now understand what Ramban, Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman (Nachmanides, 1194-1270) really says. He'll often quote the great commentators, Rashi or Ibn Ezra, and then go on to disagree with their views. We'll proceed through the five Books of Moses exploring and enjoying the often-surprising twists that Ramban, in his intellectual style, contributes to the familiar texts. Bring a copy of Ramban (Artscroll Bereshit recommended) and your questions to this inquisitive group.
