Mental health awareness: More than a month
SIM practices continue to make progress in their work to integrate behavioral and physical health, and we're looking forward to hearing some of those stories from you during the Collaborative Learning Sessions this month in Denver and Grand Junction. We published a short story about how whole-person care rekindled hope for a 13-year-old and his family and will continue to share examples of SIM successes during Mental Health Awareness month and beyond. Role reversal: Providers, payers switch roles to find solutions at second MSS
The second Colorado State Innovation Model (SIM) Multi-Stakeholder Symposium (MSS) on May 18 drew about 50 SIM providers as well as representatives from health plans and practice transformation organizations. The meeting, which was held in Denver, focused on payer-provider collaboration and ways to work more collaboratively. The twist: Attendees assumed different roles-payers played providers (and vice versa) during scenarios.

SIM helps fund suicide prevention efforts
About 800 people attended a Suicide Prevention Community Summit on May 11 that was partially funded by SIM. Goals for the summit, which was hosted by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) in Durango, included raising awareness about how to help someone who is contemplating suicide and gaining feedback on local strengths, weaknesses, and unmet needs related to mental health and wellness.

Resources for suicide prevention
Providers are in a unique position to help identify and prevent suicide with the patients they see. The SIM team recently met with the Suicide Prevention Commission, which has a number of provider-specific resources, including education, to help you with these efforts.

Defining SIM data sources
SIM practices are receiving two different data reports to aid practice transformation efforts. Using these tools will help identify cost and utilization and compare your practice with others. SIM shares CQM data with payers
In April the SIM team shared full calendar-year (January - December 2016), practice-level, clinical quality measures (CQM) data with payers that support SIM practices. SIM providers received an email about this report with an opportunity to opt-out. The goal was to reduce provider reporting burden by sharing CQM data with payers, which is a requirement for some health plans that support SIM practices.

What does it take to integrate behavioral and physical health and prepare for alternative payment models from a health information technology perspective? Attend the CORHIO Education Forum May 31 (8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m.) for an overview of SIM and the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPi), and lessons learned from the SIM director and a clinical health information technology advisor (CHITA) who helped design the CHITA program.

Last day to sign up for Denver CLS
Online registration for the June 2 SIM Collaborative Learning Session (CLS) in Denver closes today. Due to capacity and limited space, onsite registration at the June 2 CLS might not be available. SIM practices are expected to send two representatives to the Denver metro or western slope CLS (June 16). As a reminder, SIM is no longer able to reimburse travel or hotel expenses related to these events. Practices will still receive the payment outlined in practice participation agreements ($500 for sending two participants).

New training for behavioral health specialists
Integrating behavioral health into primary care settings creates new roles, responsibilities and challenges. This free, five-week series is designed to help behavioral health providers in SIM practices develop strategies to resolve common ethical dilemmas, implement and operationalize tools linked to financial sustainability, and discuss ways providers can be a leader in integrating patient care. The sessions will be held
virtually on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (MT) from July 11 through Aug. 8. Register and learn more.

Join the Colorado Primary Care Collaborative June 8 (8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.) in Denver to hear from subject matter experts on topics including:
