James J. Cimino, MD, UAB Informatics Institute Director, CCTS Co-director, and Endowed Professor in Informatics, has been elected to the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, recently established by the International Medical Informatics Association. Cimino is one of 120 founding members from 38 countries worldwide. The Academy will play an important role in the field of biomedical and health informatics: disseminating knowledge and expertise, providing education and training, producing policy documents, and providing a forum for international collaboration.

This new granting program will offer 1-2 year awards of $75,000-$100,000 for development of systems and/or diseases oriented working groups, e.g. "Neuroscience," "Cardiovascular Diseases," "Autoimmunity," that will create research projects integrating genetics/genomics.

The awards range from $58,000 to $150,000 for Innovative, Training, and Career Development Grants. Awards for Strategic Research Agreements are "as approved."
