Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director supervises, plans, and manages the acquisition, cataloging, classification and processing of library materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Catalogs and classifies all resources for input into the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) online database, including:
- Searching OCLC (Smartport and Connexion Browser) and editing bibliographic records
- Performs copy cataloging, some original cataloging, and database maintenance.
- Updates item and title records using CCS rules including adding new local item records to existing bibliographic records, and deleting item records for missing items
- Creates and maintains serial records.
- Assigns call numbers, prints spine labels
- Library liaison with CCS including responding to clean-up requests and requesting policy changes
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in library technical services
- Supervises library acquisitions including:
- Creating and transmitting orders in online systems as directed by selectors and tracking orders
- Tracks materials budgets and gives reports to selectors
- Reconciles shipments, packing slips, and invoices
- Receives materials bills, reconciles with the shipments and codes invoices for payment and queries vendors about order and account status
- Collect accurate and up-to-date statistics about the use of the collection and library services, including:
- Gets statistical reports from ILS and R
- Retrieve and send weekly and monthly statistical reports to staff members
- Compiles statistics for eResource+, tech services and circulation materials for monthly board report
- Supervises work duties of Technical Services Assistant I
- Assume full responsibility for the operation and security of the library as needed (Person in Charge).
- Participates in professional development and continuing education, as appropriate.
- Supervises and evaluates staff; identifies training needs, recommends, and/or provides staff training to meet identified needs and improve performance.
- Repairs books as needed
- Maintains department supplies
- Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
· Requires full range of motion, including standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods
· Requires bending, stooping, and reaching to retrieve library materials
· Must be able to move a two-sided book cart loaded with books and other library materials
· Must have dexterity and eye-hand coordination to move materials or operate automated equipment
· Must be able to lift boxes of books, paper, or other items weighing up to 40 lbs
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
· Two (2) years of college education and/or LTA Certification
· Two years of library experience.
· Minimum of one (1) year of successful library experience as a cataloger
· Working knowledge of AARC2 and RDA cataloging rules, MARC formats, Dewey, and cataloging techniques and procedures
· Demonstrated skill in using a computer to enter and retrieve data, typing, filing, and organization including using Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word)
· Familiarity with online automation systems and vendor online ordering systems.
· Ability to complete detailed work accurately, efficiently, and on time, with minimal supervision and/or frequent interruptions
· Ability to adapt to evolving technology
Preferred
· Working knowledge of Sirsi/Dynix Symphony and/or Innovative Interface Polaris ILS
· Supervisory Experience
Special Requirements:
Schedule includes evenings and weekends. Although a regular weekly schedule is established, the needs of the Library may require schedule changes and flexibility.
