First, Happy New Year! As we welcome in 2018, I wanted to thank you for listening to
Martini in the Morning, for making
Martini in the Morning your station for the greatest songs ever written and one of the most listened to radio stations on the Internet.
I received a note from a longtime
Martini in the Morning listener this morning, asking about her subscription and some valid questions I'll try to answer in this email. But first, I need to address something she said.
"I only wanted to subscribe for one year, to see if you were able to deliver."
I don't know whether to say touche' or ouch! But she makes a fair point. The fact is, we've been 'delivering' day after day, month after month, year after year for over 11 years. We're not in the subscription business, or even (as we've sadly proven) the advertising sales business. We're in the business of delivering unique, quality entertainment; delivering a genre of music all but abandoned by big broadcasting corporations and big corporate record companies.
A fellow from Germany criticized our subscription move saying we should "Get some proper advertising clients to refinance and talk to media agencies and ask what they can do for you." He later apologized when we explained that's what we have been trying to do these past 11 1/2 years, and offered to use his experience in German radio to help us sell advertising in Germany. Where was he when we were trying plans B through Y?
Whether we're able to "Deliver" depends on how many people subscribe. When I talk about the future, I don't say
"IF" Plan Z works, I say
"WHEN" Plan Z works! After giving up everything for 11 years; from downsizing to burning through my family's savings and retirement, I can't imagine
any outcome short of success. Our commitment isn't just to you; from the beginning, we committed to our artists and the families charged with protecting and promoting the legacy of the singers and songwriters who made this music popular the first time around, to expose their music to an audience eager and willing to buy their recordings and tickets to their performances.
With your help, we will deliver for a long time to come. If you're not sure, don't buy an annual subscription. Subscribe for a month and see what you think. Of course, the fact that you're reading this, the fact that you're already part of our listener family across the USA and around the world means it's pretty likely you like
Martini in the Morning. So please,
click here to subscribe and we'll keep delivering the greatest songs ever written.
